Nutritionist Issue

I am almost 6 weeks out and have not seen my nutritionist since my 2 week check up. I am not sure what I am supposed to be doing I know that I should be at stage 4 according to the instructions given but I am not really sure of the foods I should be eating. When they cancelled this morning for the second time I called my doctors office to speak to the nurse who has not gotten back to me yet. I feel like I have been abandoned by the whole staff. I am still new to this lifestyle and I have legitimate questions and concerns. Please let me know what I should do next. Andrea

Your story is exactly why I chose to go 40 minutes from home when a hospital 5 mins. from home did this surgery. I went to a hospital that really focuses on pre and post-op nutritional care. I have e-mail access to my nutritionist any time. She's been great. I feel bad for you. Is there any way you can inquire about another nutritionist at another practice? Also, can you call your surgeon and ask him/her for any recommendations?

Andrea, first off I just want you to know that I think you are a very beautiful woman. I love your smile. My nutritionist is available to me via e-mail and has helped me a lot. Maybe you can see if your's has e-mail. I've bombarded mine with loads of questions and even though she make take all day to get back to me, she always does and it's FREE. I myself am still on the mushy "pureed" foods still and won't get to food food until August probably. I have a very conservative doctor, but I've lost over 42.5 pounds since May 5th so he must know what he's talking about. So I can't quite help you from personal experience yet on the food. I know I'm enjoying right now scrambled eggs, cottage cheese, applesauce and still doing the liquid stuff. Good luck and keep us posted. Keep Loosen My Friend, Cathy (Skinny Minnie)

Andrea, I'm sorry that you have been abandoned like this! Is there another WLSurgeon and/or dietitian that you can see anywhere near you to do your post-op care? My surgeon is a little over 2 hours away from me so we keep in touch mostly by phone and more importantly, my support group has been a tremendous help to me.

Andrea I can only guess how your feeling right now. I too was in the same position except I had no nutritionist to see following the surgery. When I was at the hospital the nutritionist came to visit me and went over the booklet on proper nutrition following surgery. I was given this several weeks prior to surgery to get prepared. I also at this time researched and was able to get several other nutrition packets from other hospitals for recovering gastric RYN patients. WHen the nutritionist asked if I had any questions at the hospital I had none. I had read and memorized the books. My doctor is very conservative and just tells me your on pureed for the next 3 months and follow the book. I do that, but it would have been nice to have a nutritionist to follow up with when I had questions that just popped up. This website has really helped me with understanding how foods effect others and that no I am not different. I just suggest like the others since you do have the option for a nutritionist to be persistant and call and see if she/he has an email. Lots of times they do, you just have to ask. Goog luck to you. I hope it all works out okay in the end. -Sabrina
