How much can you get in at a go?
That is the question. I can get in 4-6 oz but feel I could easily get more. I could be wrong because I have not tested the theory but I don't usually feel full just satisfied. I have always been able to get this amt. in. Maybe I am mixing up the signals and I really am full. Thanks for your response, Bethannie
I was worried myself because I can eat a whole Burger King grilled chicken garden salad but I just tried to a hard boiled egg and 1/2 and totally ralphed. I think it not always the amount but what exactly we're eating also. Like I also can't finish a cheese stick wrapped with turkey but can eat 2/3 a cup of macaroni and tuna salad. Oh back on topic the nutritionist told maybe I can eat more in one sitting because I'm not getting in my 6 small meals. I don't maybe she's right I'm going try the six small meals but it is real hard for me not the eating part the remembering part.
I would like to know how much everyone else is getting in too? I am so afraid that I am being able to get in too much too soon. Here are examples of my meals lately: breakfast 1 6oz cup of yogurt; lunch 3/4 of a 8oz budget gourmet pasta dinner; dinner 1 pork eggroll and 3oz chicken chow mein; Snack thru the day 1 twin pack crunchy granola bar. This is what I had on Tuesday. For dinner this evening I had 1/2 of a single whopper without cheese and about 10-12 fries and 4 bites of a brownie. I feel like this is way too much and I shouldent be able to get all of this food in without being uncomfortable. This has been my biggest fear that I am messing up my 1 chance to be an average weight!
Wow - Andrea, that is quite a bit. Here's my average - yesterday I had a cup of hot tea in the a.m., then
B: 1 fried egg (cooked with butter spray) and 1/2 of a slice of 12-grain toast without the crust,
L: My fuzzy navel smoothie (2 slices of frozen peaches, 1-1/2 scoops Nectar fuzzy navel, and about 1/2 cup OJ),
D: About 1/3 of a small chicken breast, breaded (homemade) and cooked in a very small amount of olive oil, 3-4 green beans, and about 2 very small bites of mashed potatoes,
S: about 10 soy crisps.
I can't even imagine eating more than one or two bites of a whopper. The frozen budget gormet meals, I can eat MAYBE 1/4 of them. I'm scared to try french fries just because they were such a big problem for me pre-op that if I can tolerate them, I will want them all the time - same with sugar.

I'm not trying to be judgemental but fries and whoppers? We all had the surgery so that we could get aaway from eating that stuff. One whopper has like 900 calories...so half is arond 450....add the fries probably another 100 calories. I hate to say it but post op is the time to break those habits..what will happen when you can eat a whole whopper? If you want a burger try a chicken or turkey burger...they taste great and have a lot less calories and fat. I am honestly not trying to be mean but you do not want to set yourself up for failure so quickly. Just because we've had surg doesn't mean we can eat whatever we want. Best of luck to you!!!Now in all fairness I will tell what I am eating.
b- protein shake
l- cup of chicken soup
d- 3 oz chicken salad
s- cottage cheese.
I also eat things like sugar free pudding in the cups you can buy in the store 3.5 oz, sugar free jello, 1/2 cup scrambled egg beaters, l pkt plain instant oatmeal with splenda and cinnamon.
I am so glad to see you post this. I have the exact same problem. I can eat a whole lot. I can eat WAY more than my mom already, and she is two years post op. I worry about it, and I have bugged the nurse and nutritionist at my surgeons, but they reassure me that you cant stretch your pouch this early, and you will feel pain when you overdo it (which I have). I drink a shake in the AM, and try to eat protein first on lunch and dinner. Its hard to get the water and protein in. I hate the shakes but I try to choke one down every morning. I hope we will be ok. I know I am probably silly, but I sit and worry that I will be the only person who this surgery didnt work for. And since I cash paid, that is one heck of a lot of money to waste!
Good luck!
I don't know for sure. I measure my food every time, so I'm not taking in more than 3oz, 3 times a day, period. I do know that certain foods make me feel fuller, but I've had to learn to really slow down and really pay attention when I'm eating.
For instance, 3 oz of yogurt doesn't really make me "full" but 3 oz of broiled fish makes me really full. In fact, the last time I had broiled fish, I spit out the last bite because I was afraid if I swallowed it, I would
I think the other posts are right, it really depends on what you're eating, how dense it is.

I mentioned this to my nutritionist and she said that by eating more than we're told to, we're stretching our pouch. It may feel fine, but in the long run, when your appetite returns (at about 6 months), that stretched pouch will enable you to eat more and your overall weight loss will not be what it could have been.
I too find that I could often eat more than I'm supposed to. But I agree with someone else who wrote about the feeling of "satisfied" vs. "full". We must relegate the need to feel full to the dustbin of our personal histories and set a new normal standard of just feeling satisfied. And to maximize this great tool, we should try as much as possible to stick to the dietary recommendations of the health care professionals providing our guidance.
Those are my two cents!
Right now I have the opposite problem and I can't eat enough. But when I was doing good I measured EVERYTHING!!! I don't want to know what I "can" eat. I'm supposed to eat 3 - 4 oz SIX times a day!!! OMGSH - this is WAY too much!! When I'm feeling well, I can usually do 2 oz six times a day. But then again, I've never felt hungry since surgery, so therefore I don't think I really know what you all are going through.
I WISH I didn't feel hunger - but I do. I don't mean the 'hmm...I wonder what's in the kitchen that I can snack on', but the stomach growling, 'it's time to eat something' hunger. I can definitely tell the difference - when I just want to eat, I 'listen to' my stomach and if there is no 'empty' feeling in there, then I don't go eat. If it's definitely growling (which usually comes before the desire to eat) and empty, it's time to eat. This usually comes about 3-4 hours after I've eaten something.
