PREGNANT DURING SURGERY!!!!!!
I thought I would be high risk too, but not even the surgeon would see me until next thursday. This scares me, to have to wait that long. Maybe they assume I will miscarry? I don't know what to think! I am sick sick sick and I am trying to eat, but nothing is sitting well. I am worried about my baby. I want another ultrasound, but thats 2 weeks away!

I will pray for you. My doctor said DO NOT GET PREGNANT. It can result in the death of the baby, along with problems with the mother. There is just not enough nutrients getting in to support both. He actually suggested I go on birth control 5 weeks out to make sure I didn't get pregnant. I sure hope they can take special care of you so that the baby can live. If (s)he survived the surgery, then (s)he must be here for a reason. It concerns me the doctor doesn't want to see you asap though. It seems like it's something he would want to deal with.

Okay, breathe. It's a blessing, and nothing to be worried about if you take care of yourself. As far as nutrition goes, you'll need to take extra vitamins and probably iron, but the baby will take what it needs from you, whether your body needs it or not. Until they're born, to put it bluntly, babies are parasites. You need not worry about the anesthesia or meds - I had an ovary and fallopian tube removed along with 3 HGE tumors at 22 weeks gestation with my last pregnancy, and my son is HUGE and quite advanced for his age. It will all be fine. Just make sure you're meeting your nutritional requirements (try Ensure for pregnant mothers) and take any additional vitamins you need. I might have some plus-size maternity clothes left, if you're interested. You may not even need them by the time you're showing. Everything will be okay, and you can email me if you need some perspective from someone who's been through a similar experience.

It's very comforting to know you went through any type of surgery pregnant, thats been my main concern. I know as far as nutrition, the baby will get what it needs from me, but I have people left and right emailing me and telling me how my baby is going to have birth defects and to consider abortion!! It's aweful! I had one person even scold me for being pregnant! HELLO?!! I have never been pregant in my life, was told my weight was causing my hormones to prevent pregnancy anyway. Like I planned this! I just want everything to be ok!

My thoughts are with you and the baby! I know of a girl I used to work with who had lap=band surgery and found out she was pregnant during the surgery. She's about to deliver any day now, and seems to have a very healthy baby.
As for surgery while pregnant, I wouldn't worry too much. I had my gallbladder removed when I was 23 weeks pregnant, and my son is now 2.5 years and the best thing that's ever happened to me!
*hugs*

Now that is just wrong!! You had a false negative pg test! It's not like you did this on purpose!! What is the matter with people?!? You do what you feel is right for you and the baby and forget what others say. I know that I could never abort. Some people can, but I can't. I was diagnosed with PCOS and have had infertility treatments 3 times. Pregnancy is a blessing. You'll be fine. Just think positive and do the best you can. Yes birth defects are possible, but so is a perfectly healthy baby.
Hang in there!!
Hi Brandi,
First off, congrats on the new bundle of joy. All babies are precious. Secondly, I saw on an episode of discovery health channel "I lost it" where this happened to a young lady too. They took the pregnancy test prior to surgery, they did the surgery and then it came back she was pregnant. She continued to lose weight through out the pregnancy. She went to a high risk OB/GYN and her lil' girl was normal weight and healthy. After the birth of her daughter, she continued to lose and was down to a pretty reasonable weight. I just wanted to share with you that it can work out.

Brandi:
Why do doctor's not realize what we go through when they tell us "I can't see you this week". You need a doctor and/or ob to tell you what to do. But that's okay because THEY don't worry.
My thoughts and prayers will be on you and the baby. Please put in a repost after the dr. And make it so it will stay on top because I don't always use the computer every day.
I checked your profile, and about 2 years ago I rafted on the Deschutes River in Oregon. What a gas. When I am more physically fit would like to do it again.
Love,
Paula
I SOOOO TOTALLY agree with you! My surgeon and OB both didn't seem to want to get me in right away. So I just keep getting more and more worried. I am trying not to, but it's tough. I haven't had any cramps or bleeding, but I am still scared, worried for my little baby. I will post again for sure once I get some answers, and encouragement from the powers that be.

You might find some encouragement in the post-op pregnancy board at:

I taught lamaze classes years ago and one thing I learned is that babies are very hardy creatures. They take what they need. As long as you are taking care of yourself, you are doing everything needed for the wee one. If the surgery itself (anesthetic, etc.) would have caused harm, you would have lost the baby by now. The fact that it is thriving is an indication that things are fine. I know you will feel better when you see ultrasounds showing normal growth, but this is going to take some time!
Best of luck to you and CONGRATULATIONS!
