Incision infection question...help!

Okay, so I had the RNY Lap 4 weeks ago, and everything is almost healed. Just now, my top-center incision was itching, so I looked at it, and it had a pocket of pus in it...kind of like a pimple. Gross and kinds uncomfortable. Should I be worried? Do I need to call my surgeon or is it just a topical infection I can treat with Bacitracin? Input? Gina

Gina I would call the doctor. I had my surgery the same day and all my incisions are completely healed. I am putting Mederma on all of them hoping to get them to disappear along with my weight! 27lbs down so far. Again do call the office, they most likely will just drain it and give you some antibiotics. Jen

HI girlie I am 3weeks out of surgery and I had the Lap Band done and I am down 22 pounds. My incision like yours became infected I called my surgeon and he and I discussed on the phone what to do. I cleaned mine 5 to 8 times a day with peroxide NO it did not burn it actually cleared up and then while dr was on phone made a appointment. By cleaning mine with peroxide saved me alot of complications of meds and what the dr would have done....so call your dr and find out what to do. But also try peroxiding it as well. Oh yeah when you are done taking a shower use a blow dryer to dry your incisions it works great!

Definately call your surgeon. He/she may want to put you on an antibiotic. My drain site got infected and they had to clean it out, pack it and let it heal. The antibiotics worked wonders and I was healed in no time. Don't worry too much though, it happens. Jaimie
