No energy after two surgeries

I also had complications after my surgery but it wasn't a leak. I had an infection which I guess was due to all the coughing and vomitting I experienced after surgery. I was holding alot of fluid and I had to have another surgery because I could barely breathe without oxygen and I was not urinating even though I was being given 7 bags of electrolites a day. In the second surgery they removed a puss/blood pocket the size of an orange and they put a chest tube in so that all the fluid could drain. I did get much better after that and after a week I was released to go home. I walked everyday and I ate and drank like I should but my energy level doesn't seem to be coming back. I've been out of the hospital going on 3 weeks I started back to work today but I'm so tired and stairs are killing me. I'm not taking vitamins so that might be a reason why I'm so tired but I just wanted to know when will I get back to my old self? Also I always have a bad taste in my mouth, will that ever go away? I did get real depressed after all the complications but I'm much better, I go back and forth because I really want my energy back. Please let me know.

The depression thing is pretty normal. I experienced rage, not depression, but it's all pretty much hormonal - fat cells hold hormones, when you lose weight rapidly, if floods your body. The funny taste is *probably* ketosis. You're getting close to 0 carbs in and your body has kicked into ketosis - fat burning. Opinions vary on whether this is a good thing or not (do a goodgle search, you'll see the good, the bad, and the ugly). My Nut told me to drink 8 oz of 100% juice for a couple of days to get rid of it. It comes and goes for me, depending on my food intake... As far as the lack of energy, it's nothing I've experienced, but apparently I'm a weirdo... It's pretty much expected that you'll be worn out for a while, you're body has been through a lot. I've read that it goes away anywhere from 6 weeks to 3 months... Most importantly, why aren't you taking your vitamins???? Did your doc tell you not to? That would concern me more than anything else. Of course it will affect your energy level (esp. the B12) and more importantly, you can develop extremely serious, even life-threatening vitamin deficiencies... Don't fool around with that! If you're having problems taking them, call your doc or Nut and find out what your other options are. Take care of yourself! After everything you've gone through, you deserve to be healthy! Becky

Leona, Do you have to be back to work so soon? I think you need much more rest! Lori

I'm doing part time this week but next week I was gonna try to do full time. I really didn't have to come back to work so soon but I was getting stir crazy at home and I didn't feel like I was being productive, also my job was calling me everyday with questions. I decided to come and help out as much as I can. I sit down so its really not bad once I'm here, getting here is the my hardest challenge.
