May-ers... how much can you eat at once?
Hi Kate,
I am at about 3 1/2 weeks and am on strictly pureed for the next several months per my doctor. I am able to get about 3 oz if its yogurt or a thin soup, but when it comes to anything thicker like meats and beans I can barely get 2 oz before getting a sick feeling. I find that for me any thing with quite a bit of carbs(starches) they make me very sick at this point. I eat 3 meals a day with 2 snacks between breakfast and dinner that consist of either a yogurt shake or nectar protein shake. I get about 300-400 cals. per day, 50-60grams of protein.

Hi Everyone,
I would say that 6.5 weeks out, I can eat about 3-40z of soft foods per sitting, (30-40min), and about 2 oz of a heavier solid. I am doing very well by eating slow and taking about 3 minutes between bites. I also make sure to chew very slowly, when I do this I find that not only can I tolerate more, but I feel less sick. My surgeon and nutritionist reccomend a 600cal/30carb/70gprotein diet per day. I am doing well with this and my protein shake really helps me get the calories up.
Depending on the consistency, I can eat 2-4 oz at a time. One of those little Motts applesauce cups I can eat the whole thing, but like now I just ate lunch and had 4 average sized shrimp and I am full. I can eat one string cheese. It just really depends. I've not eaten breads yet, but I can eat crackers (FF Saltines) but if I do, it fills me up a LOT faster.
HEY KATE!!
I'll give you some examples of what I have been able to ingest in the past week at a meal.
2 oz. cheddar cheese with one low-fat Ry-crisp
1 scrambled egg with 1/2 piece of ww toast
1/4 c. tuna salad (tuna, mayo, and a little pickle relish)
1/2 veggie burger with 1/4 c. of mashed taters
Some days I can eat great, without a problem. Other days, it seems like the food just won't go down. I find that if I eat things like chili, refried beans, or mashed potatos, I can eat much more. Last week, Joe went to Wendy's and got me a small chili. I easily ate 2/3 of it, which had to be close to a cup of chili.
Best,
Dina
Well I'm not sure it varies I can eat a whole Burger King grilled chicken salad minus the tomatoes but if I eat a cheese stick with deli tukey I can only eat about a half or three-fourths of it. I thought I had broken my new tool but hopefully this is not so I will see my doctor next week and ask him.
It varies depending on the day, my activity level, and what kind of fluids I've had.
I'm on soft foods, and I get about 4ozs of those in. If I eat protein first, I get full faster (2-3ozs). If I have alot of soft cooked veggies or pureed-consistancy foods on my plate, I can eat more.
I started getting in two shakes a day, and have noticed that when I get those in I'm full or nearly satisfied most of the time. I have one at around 9am, and the second at 3pm.
If I drink the fluids I'm 'sposed to, I eat alot less, too. I guess that's related to the whole "first sign of dehydration is hunger" thing.
Anyway... long answer short, I eat roughly 4 ozs at a time. Takes me about 30 minutes to eat. I eat three times a day, and have two shakes. Today, I hit 600 calories (thanks to the shakes).

Here's exactly what I had today:
B: No food, but about 4 oz of hot tea- went to the doc with a screaming headache
L: 4 garlic/herb marinated and grilled shrimp
D: One of those SmartOnes meals (turkey and mashed potatoes) - I had about 4 bites of turkey and 2 bites of mashed potatoes
S: 2 garlic pita chips and 3 Cracker Cuts (pre-sliced cheese)
I also had 8 oz of oj with Nectar fuzzy navel flavor protein powder (1-1/2 scoops) and later about 5 oz of water with the same (1-1/2 scoops). I have also drank about 40-50 oz of other fluids (Propel and plain water).
This is pretty typical for me.
