Someone at my surgeon's office strips down to boxers to weigh himself. I am not kidding. My husband heard it from the receptionists. K

I don't know if I am or not. I refuse to play slave to the scale. I did weigh today when I took my son for his pre-op physical at the peds office. According to their scale I am down 41 lbs in just over 3 weeks. If I plateau I plateau. If I watch the scale every day I would be nuts. I would rather have the big surprises once a week or every 2 weeks then the daily oh I have gained a pound. The big payoff's are much more fun. Put the scale away..... Kat

Well to me I'm plateauing but my surgeon just laughed at me when I asked him if I was. He said, Okay you've lost almost 30 pounds in 5 weeks. How is that a plateau?" I mentioned the fact that at 3 weeks I was 25 pounds down and within the last 2 weeks it's just 4.5 more??? Then he said, You said you're probably pre-menstrual right? Sounds like water retention too. He makes me laugh but it all made sense. I'm not going to freak about it. I don't like weighing in at home because mine and his scales are so different. I'm just glad it keeps going down. The sooner my period gets here I'm sure things will change. In the meantime, I'm drinking my water! You're doing great Kathy! We'll be shedding in no time.

I know I should be thankful I am not 275 anymore...but the nature of the beast is that we ...at least some including myself are never satisfied ehh? Let's make sure we just keep supporting each other...we will get through this and laugh NEXT year when we are all bathing beauties!!!! NOT that we aren't already...of COURSE we are...but when we see OUR MIRROR and can say that to ourselves I mean... love ya'll.. T 244 heheh

I'll toast your 275 with my 276! LOL! I'm down to 222.5 but that's because I lost 32 lbs pre-op - got down to 244 from mid-Feb to mid-May. Worked my butt off for it! Surgeon asked my hubby if he could hug me after I weighed in just before surgery. LOL. Apparently, I was one of the few "compliant" folks. Funny thing is that I was down as low as 216 in 2003 (gained the weight back faster than I lost it) but my body shape is different. I cannot fit into the clothing I was wearing back then. Too tight. Guess I need to get my exercise going at a better clip. We'll definitely keep checking in with each other and see how everyone is doing. We can all do it TOGETHER! Kathy

I just finished a great WLS book that advocated weighing every day -- just to take the mystique out of it and give you some perspective on ups and downs. I have to say, weighing every day was lots more fun the first 2 weeks, when i was losing 2 lbs a day. I've been plateauing for a week and a half to two weeks now... and am really frustrated and doubtful about whether I made the right choice. Did I jinx myself? After I hit the 30-lb mark, I thought to myself, if this is all the benefit I got from this, it's worth it. I've gained 2 pounds since then. I changed my mind. I want to lose more! My calorie counts are moderate (finally am hitting 600/day), my protein is decent, and I'm drinking plenty of water. WHAT'S WRONG?!?! fear and loathing in kate-land

I feel really bad. I'm four weeks out today and I 've only lost 24 pounds . The scales haven't moved in over a week ! I could really use some words of encouragement! I'm doing what my doctor says, so why does it seem that everyone else has lost 30-35 pounds by this time? What's wrong with me?

I've heard that our body goes into shock and there has to be readjustment periods. Unless you totally go against Dr's orders...THERE IS NO WAY THIS CAN'T WORK...we have to keep our chins up. Yes there will be plateaus, but it will go again and all of a sudden you'll drop 10-20lbs. This is not a "typical" weight loss program we have all be in before, this was surgical and fixed so we WILL lose weight. As long as you are keeping within the guidelines of the program, there is no way we can fail. So chins up!!
