Well, to begin with I am still on the liquid diet. I hope to move to pureed this coming monday. My problem is that my stomach isn't tolerating milk products anymore. The last two days I find every time after I have milk or a shake, I get nauseated and go running to the bathroom not knowing what end its coming out of. I get crampy, hot, and headache. I tried eating a scrambled egg this morning just to try and get my protein in and boy I thought I was going to die. Anyone have some suggestions on how I can get my protein in. My stomach isn't handling the protein mixes. I tried several different types and get very ill afterward. I am kind of scared to try cooked pureed meat after my egg incident. ----Sabrina

You might be lactose intolerant. Try Lactaid milk, instead, you can buy it at most grocery stores... As for the egg, so far, I've had an iron stomach and tried an egg last night and Well, not really, but it was pretty close... From what I hear, eggs are the worst as far as making people sick... How about refried beans? I've been eating a lot of those, and they have a pretty good protein count and are pretty tasty, too! Good luck! Becky

Sabrina, sorry to hear about your incident....I have been eating the eggbeaters/eggwhites...seem to be doing good with that, but the thought of the yolk...yuck! I also cant seem to handle the shakes, with water, lactaid milk, skim milk....but what is working is: Dannon light/fit carb control smoothie light ricotta cheese with a bit of splenda on melba toast hummus on melba toast pureed black beans with ff cheddar Hope this helps a bit. You may want to try soy milk instead of regular milk. Get the one sweetened with splenda. 8th continent vanilla light is good. Mixes well for protein shakes. You shouldn't have the lactose problems with that. I tried carb countdown with my shakes the week after surgery and got tons of rumbling from my pouch and then grumbling from my intestines so I've avoided dairy for now. Cheese doesn't seem to have the same effect. I've been eating meats and fish since I was put on pureeds and I do very well. Make sure that anything you eat is very, very moist. Scrambled eggs tend to be dry and a problem. I've eated: egg salad, tuna salad, chicken salad, chicken in various ways (francais, tomato sauce, chipotle sauce), pork cooked in the crock pot with water and taco seasoning mix (pulled pork), tilapia, salmon and turkey chili (homemade). One thing that I really, really want to highly recommend is papaya enzyme tablets. If something seems to be sitting in your pouch like a lump, chew a few of them. I got mine at The Vitamin Shoppe. They help breakdown the food (the enzymes do that). I've been using them as I introduce new foods and it has worked for me. Went to a fair tonight and got some chicken and had to puree it in my mouth and it ended up being too dry. Had some tablets in my pocket and chewed them and within a few mintues...I didn't feel the lump anymore. Kathy

Hi Sabrina! I'm with Janean... I can't tolerate protein shakes period! I tried them with water, with soy milk, with Lactaid and still dumped. I even got sick from the Nectars (lemonade and Iced tea). My doc took me off of protein shakes altogether and told me to try to get in as much protein as I could through yogurt, string cheese, refried beans, etc. So far, so good. I have not been getting 60 grams per day but my doc says that at this stage 60 grams is a "goal" not a "rule" and that by the time I get to solid foods, I will have a much better chance of getting 60 grams in with foods alone. So, please know that you're not alone in not tolerating shakes. Hugs, Tracy
