Popcorn
Rosie,
I had popcorn yesterday while at the movies with my daughter. I am three weeks post op come tomorrow and handled the popcorn without difficulties. As for collecting in the pouch, I have a hard time believing that. I am a nurse practitioner and have researched the pathophysiology of the pouch. If the hulls were to be "caught" it would be at the stoma site, or the outlet where the food passes into the small intestine. You would know if you had a stricture at that point as you would feel ill, not able to eat solids and pass them through the small stricture. Sometimes the medical profession will "scare" you so you will eat according to their regimen and not all regimens are the same. I am not advocating eating popcorn by any means, and it might be best to stay with what your nutritionist may want, just giving you some education to be better prepared. If you are wanting to try popcorn try a brand that has less hulls like the more expensive gourmet popcorn.
