I am 2 wks and 3 days post-op and want to know if others are having this too.... I do not have too much trouble with eating, ((((BUT)))) On Monday I started the day with a microwaved scrambled egg, no butter or margarine. Ate 2 tiny bites and had what I describe as foamy bubbles come up my throat and TONS of pressure! HURT LIKE HELL!!! started walking around the house with my arms above my head hoping it would quit hurting so bad! NO LUCK! Took 2 "Gas X" and then about 5 min later spewed. Then, just like a baby I felt much better, and had NO problems w/anything since. I have even had eggs hard-boiled w/no problem!...OK, fast forward to last night, Wed. Went out to eat w/parents and husband. Went to a Chinese buffet since I knew I could definately enjoy the chicken soup! But I decided to try snow crab. I have eaten a couple a shrimp last week and tolerated fine so I thought crab would do well too...NOOOOOO!!!!! Got that same foamy bubbly stuff, not near as bad thank GOD!!! Went to ladies room and spit out foam, sat down and had about 2 oz of chicken broth and felt fine... Then prceeded to have 2 small brocolli florets, 2 mushroom halves and 2 small shrimp. All went down fine...
So, does anyone know whats the deal? Is anyone else having this same symptom if you can call it that???
It's never happened to me, but on the main board, they call it "Foaming". Basically, the way it was described was your new pouch creates a lot of extra mucus to help protect itself and if you eat something that disagrees with you, your pouch will go into overdrive and create a LOT of extra mucus and force the food out. Hence, the foaming.
I haven't tried eggs yet but have read that a LOT of people have problems with eggs for a while...

Thanks Becky Sue! I've read allot of your responses and you usually have a good answer. Glad to know I'm not some weird-o. But sad to know others have it too...Its a "B", I mean....severe pain. It does make sense now realizing its sort of a defense mechanism in my pouch! its sort of a punnishment button! When you think you really just have to have something, and you shouldn't or can't,you will definately SUFFER for it!
ME! ME! I've had this and it's called - STUCK! I know it hurts soooo bad - it happened to me with (of all things) cottage cheese. The little curds weren't chewed up enough and I took a bit too big of a bite and it got stuck. I tell you what, since then I've chewed the heck out of everything and it's not happened since. I will still sometimes get a little bit of foaming, but not like when food was stuck.
I can tell you most days you can hook me up to a Starbucks I am so foamy!!!
My doc said it is from swallowing air, and it turns into gas, and foam away!!!
When I get trapped gas and cant burp my head starts swinging up down and around, people think I am having a heart attack!!!
I do take at least one Pepcid a day.

Yep - It happened to me twice yesterday! You are so correct...it HURT sooooooooo BAD. I was crying and pacing around the house. It scared the be-jesus out of me. I finely got very sick and was able to spit all of that stuff up! YUCK! The scary thing is I know that the first time I had eaten too FAST and too Big of a bite, but I have no idea what triggered it the second time?
My mom called me right in the middle of the episode to check on me. She calls several times a day to see how I'm doing (she had the surgery 3 years ago.) so she has been a amazing help so far. She was here almost immediately to comfort me and to tell me, that it does happen occasionally, and that I would live through it.
I have stayed with liquids/yogurt today to try to avoid another episode. I don't think I can tolerate another one anytime soon. It was not a pleasant experience at all.

Yup, been there done that!
The first time I got the foamies, I had eaten a little bit of srambled egg. Don't know whether it was the dryness or the fact that I probably ate it too quickly, but the foam came.....after the several minutes of what felt like choking (and not much breathing!).
My sister was staying with me and I knelt beside the couch while she patted my back. Eventually I was able to burp some air up and the food went down...and the foam came up. Not pretty, but not much either.
I've had this happen with egg, cottage cheese, and banana...but would have to say that it's usually been my speed/chewing that has brought it on. Now I just make sure that the food is well chewed and adequately moist.
Good luck....and go easy.
