Hi Kate Thanks for your email. My surgery was May 16th so I'm just over 3 1/2 weeks out. I lost 18 pounds in the first 2 weeks and then hit a plateau for about 12 days...stuck within 2 pounds (up/down) of the same weight. Thought that I was the exception to the weight loss scenario! I'm happy to report that I have suddenly lost 4 pounds in the last 2 days....doing nothing out of the ordinary. If you've hit the same type of plateau, just hang in there and it will pass (thank goodness!) I've pretty much stuck to the "blended" diet. Am able to have cream of wheat for breakfast each morning, cottage cheese, half a banana, or cream soup for lunch, and sugar free pudding, soup, a scrambled egg for supper. I've also had little servings of grated feta cheese. So far no problems at all with dumping, although I have found that eating the dryer foods too quickly can cause some discomfort. I usually get in about 40 oz of water per day. Need to get that up a bit more. My doctor doesn't promote the use of protein supplements, so I haven't focused on that aspect in a big way. I still find that I have some discomfort sleeping during the night, but have stopped taking pain pills. I usually wake up about 5 am and then convince myself to go back to sleep until about 9 am. By afternoon I'm ready for a nap for a couple hours. I need to get more disciplined about taking a walk each day. It's been raining here (flooding actually) for about 12 days....and today it has stopped.....so here is "no excuse" day!....and my dog would enjoy the excercise too. Congratulations to all of us for taking this step in our lives.....and seeing some successes already. Good luck to all as you continue! Sandy

Hello Everyone! First, I LOVE this site! We are all going through the same thing at the same time - it's so helpful! I started the liquid diet on May 2nd and had surgery on May 16th and have lost 30lbs so far. I still have at least one protien shake a day, and soft foods for meals. I am to scared to try some of the things I hear you talking about. I have not had any problems, other than sometimes eating a little too fast - it's a mental thing for me, having to concentrate on the time while I eat. I started at a size 24 (which I was splitting the seams of!) and tried on a 22 yesterday with no problems! I go back to work on the 13th, and I am so ready! I need that structure back in my life. Good luck to everyone!!

I had my surgery the 31st. 10 days out and doing great. I did go to the doctor today. They had filled me with so much fluid in the hospital and I am still retaining it that the scale showed a gain of 6 lbs. The doctor said that can be expected. Other than that I am toleraing everything very well. Eager to move on to better tasting things. Glad to hear how everyone else is doing. Lets keep in touch.

I had my surgery on May 23rd and found I had lost 21 pounds at two weeks out. This past week I have been on the scales and I have gained four pounds. I have been eating soft foods and taking in 46 grams of protein from the champion whey drinks twice daily as they have 23 grams protein per 4 oz, and they are mixed with water which makes it easy for travel. I also feel I am getting close to 64 oz of water daily. I have always been a chugger when it comes to fluids. I even went back to work at the two week mark as I felt I needed it for the energy level I had. I am a nurse practitioner and cannot sit for a long period of time, always thinking I have something to do . I am praying the weight will start to fall off soon. It is so nice to see all of us going through similar situations. Makes the trip a little more fun to hear all the stories and the success you all are having as well. God bless each and every one of us and may our journeys be blessed with success!!

Hello, all the Mayers. I had RNY on May 31st, so I'm 10 days post-op. Feeling great. Although yesterday I had my first bad day and was wondering what the heck I'd gotten myself into. It passed I have no idea what cause the dizziness, clammy, nausea, hick-ups. It was horrible. It is what I thought dumping would feel like but it never went any farther than that. Surgery went great, couldn't wait to get out of the hospital Day #3. Thank goodness. The only pain that I've had at all was gas pain on the 2nd day. WOW. I walked those halls so much I was wearing a path. After a while the nurses were telling me I should lay down and rest. But all went great. I'm still on full liquids, but waiting patiently for Tuesday to advance to the puree. HMMMMMM I haven't weighed myself yet which is driving my friends and family crazy, but it's almost like I have a fear to. I know that I'm losing I can already see it in my face and hands. Guess old habits are hard to get over. Good luck to you all.

Hi! I had a lap DS on May 25th. I'm 2 1/2 weeks out and doing great. When I was weighed at the surgeons office for my 2 week appointment I had lost 20lbs! Since I started my pre-op diet I have lost 42lbs! I have been able to eat a somewhat reasonable amount. Friday I ate half a pork chop, a little bit of broccoli and a couple potato slices (hard to explain), granted it took me a while to eat but I tolerated everything just fine. I've learned to split meals. I am doing OK on getting my protein in and great on my vitamins/supplements and water.

My surgeon tells me to work up to 1/2 cup of food per meal. That sounds like an awful lot of food at one time. Be careful or you will stretch your pouch, and taking the risk of regaining weight and the surgery failing. I do not mean to sound like a know it all, but i just got done taking classes LOL For me the first week is liquids, and the second week is carnation instant breakfast (non fat), with adding 1/3 cup of non fat powered milk for the vitamins and gradually work my way up to protein drinks. It just sounds like an awful lot for you to be eating so soon after surgery, adn really period. Hugs
