Hello fellow May babies! I'm 5 1/2 weeks out, down 21 pounds (and a bunch of inches). So far, everything has been just fine. I've never had a problem getting in protein, although getting in enough fluid is a bit of a struggle. At first I couldn't drin****cold water (which was my preference pre-op), and now I can't drink it *unless* it's ice-cold. So far I've had no problems with any food I've tried... even the ones that weren't exactly on the surgeon's list. However, I've suddenly become uninterested in eating, and have to remind myself to get some solids in! I'm finally allowed shaved ham and turkey, and have been eating 3oz of one or the other for most meals. Lovely. Back when I could have nothing but liquids, I craved real food. And now that I can have some real foods, all I want is chicken broth. Before surgery, I received a bunch of clothes from my husband's co-worker (who had RNY in October). The sizes range from 28 to 24. Pre-op, I could get the 28 pants on and zipped, but they were very tight and I could barely sit down. Last week I went through the box again and discovered that the regular 28s were a bit too big. The regular 26 and petite 28 pants fit nicely. A few days later we visited another couple, and I got to raid the closet. I started as a 2x and was seeking 1x tops... but came home with some XLs as well. So today I'm wearing 26 regular pants and an XL top.

We could be in the same body!! I was the same with the 28's pre-op. They fit, but were TIGHT!! I'm now wearing 26W jeans VERY comfortably (I might even say somewhat loose) and 22/24 tops. I amd 5'8" and was 330 pre-op and as of Monday I was 295.

Hello to all my fellow May babies! I had surgery on May 11, yesterday was 4 weeks. I am down 35 pounds and feeling great. I'm still on pureed foods for 2 more weeks, but I'm fine with it. I do get "head hunger" sometimes when I smell something good, but I have to remind myself that it's all in my mind. I'm eating 1/2 cup food in 1/2 hour, which is what my doctor told me. I think that is the hardest part for me. My family is done eating in 5 minutes and I'm left sitting there alone. I just want to wish everyone a happy and successful year!

I would say that I'm eating about the same quantity as you at a sitting, Cyndi! Takes me at least 20 if not 30 mintues to get it in and feel... satisfied. I'll be on pureed for 7 weeks total until I'm 8 weeks post-op and then I can start adding regular food in. So, it's 5 more weeks of it for me! I puree most anything. LOL! May not look great but tastes the same. My husband is 10 months post-op so I have an idea of how he eased into foods. I think his happiest day was when they said he could have salad. He adores salad. Still eats lots of them now - loaded with protein, of course! Kathy

Hi there, I'm 4 weeks post-op now. As of 3 weeks out I was 25 pounds down and haven't weighed since then. Next week I'll find out what the tally is and hoping it's close to 30...that would be nice. I'm getting most if not all of my fluids in. This is my first week on pureed and I'll be here 3-5 more long weeks...long time huh? I'm tolerating everything even eggs and milk products. Today I'll try tuna salad for the first time...looking forward to that. I'm trying to encorporate things little by little. I'm actually trying not to drink protein shakes and get my protein from milk(14g per 8 oz) and my meals. So far so good. I'm not so tired as I used to be. I had some pain problems last week that were terrible but they are long gone....I'm so scared they'll come back!!! I injured some scar tissue and now I'm scared to walk!!! I'm doing other forms of exercise until I overcome this silly fear...lots of weights for toning. Headed out to the beach with the kiddos! Glad you're doing great!

Hi Everyone and Happy Birthday. I am 2 1/2 weeks post-op. I am down 20 lbs since my pre op modified fast and I can definetly notice a change in my clothes even though I don't really see the change in the mirror. I know it takes a while for your mind to realize that you really are getting smaller. So for now I will just guage it on my clothes. I was on liquids for 10 days post op and then went right to regular foods. The first day I had tuna, a hard boiled egg and some tri tip (grilled roast) that my hubby made. I haven't had any trouble with foods I just need to remember to eat s-l-o-w-l-y. That is my worst habit. Sometimes I would eat so fast I didn't even remember eating. I get my protein in without trouble. EAS whey powdered shake mixed with 4 oz H2O or skim milk (more protein) has 20gms protein. Its not the best in the world but blended with an ice cube or 2 its tolerable. My water intake is great. I prefill 4 16 oz water bottles every night. Two with some type of crystal light ( walmart has a cheaper just as good version) and 2 plain water. I sip on them all day and they stay cold and are very portable. Then I know I have had all my water. SoBe has a really good diet green tea SoLean, it is yummy. Take Care to all!! Jen

Jen, Definitely know what you mean about eating so fast that you didn't even remember. I'm a reknowned gobbler aka inhaler of food. So eating slowly, over chewing and very deliberately is a big change for me. I'm even doing it now with my pureed foods in preparation for when I can eat regular food. When you eat slow, you can really taste the flavor of food. Have you been finding that to be the case, as well? Funny how that is. LOL! Kathy

Hi, everyone! I had Lap RNY on May 6th, so I'm one day shy of my 5 week-a-versary. The pouch is very clear about just how things are gonna be around here. I know that plain water hits pretty hard, and I've figured out how to mix a pitcher of Nectar Lemon Tea that tastes pretty good. My doc and nut. have me on soft foods for one more week, so I've done alot of really moist meats, soft cooked veggies, etc. I haven't felt the urge to start incorporating starchy stuff (potatoes, rice, bread, etc.). I'm down a total of 44#s including my pre-op diet. When I went into surgery, I was in a snug size 26; a couple of weeks ago, I was able to get into my size 24 stretch jeans. Then, I pulled out my summer wardrobe (capris, tees, etc.). I'd bought some capris from Old Navy and Torrid.com a while back, and could never get them past my knees. About three weeks after the surgery, I could get them up to my butt, but not over... then over my butt, but not fasten them... Well, here I sit, in my size 24 (low rise) Old navy capris, and they fit well!! Don't tell DH, but I got some admiring looks when I was walking to lunch today! And in tops, I was wearing a 22-24... now I'm down to an XXL (I have a couple of XL tees that work, too!) So now I wanna know When oh When will my booty begin to deflate as much as my ta-tas clearly have? Take Care May Babies!!! Tiffany S. 328/284/175

Here I am, checking in! Surgery was 5/17, I'm about 3 1/2 weeks out. I'm technically on full liquids until next Tuesday, but I'm starting to experiment a little with tuna salad and chili and so far, haven't had any problems, but I'm being REALLY careful. I've had no problems getting my fluids in, and can get at least 50g protein, but my Nut wants 75. I'm working on bringing it back up, but quite honestly, I'm so sick of the milk-based shakes that I can't hardly stomach them and they're my higheset source of protein. I also drink a lot of Nectar products, mixed with my CL, but I'm out. I'm down about 30 pounds and feeling great! Didn't really have any pain issues once I left the hospital and have been walking anywhere from 2-5 miles a day every since the day after I got home. My next appointment is at 5 weeks and then I'll have an "official" weight loss tally! See ya! Becky

Hi Brenda My surgery was on May 9. At this point (4 1/2 weeks out) I have lost 43 lbs. I am still supposed to be on a puree diet, but very little of my food ever sees my Magic Bullet. My teeth are healthy and I chew chew chew, and I haven't tried anything too hard, of course. No beef yet but I have had some pureed pork roast. I have had bread (whole wheat, very thin sliced, toasted dark) and I have had a little whole wheat pasta with no problems. I haven't tried anything sweet and I don't want to. I haven't gotten or dumped, but I have eaten a little too much and/or a little too fast and felt discomfort. The amount I feel is "enough" or "too much" seems to change everyday. There have been times I've felt I've been able to eat more than I should but had no discomfort. Right now I eat just a couple bites, feel a "full pouch" and stop. After I have stopped for about 10 mins I can eat again, but I try not to. I do have a problem with grazing at night. I am following a "support-group-based" vitamin regimen which has me taking (along with my subscriptions) about 20 pills (or half-pills) a day, which is a major pain in the ass. Sometimes I feel full from pills! I'm also TRYING to get 3 or 4 protein shakes per day, but usually it's more like 2. Finally, I'm having trouble getting my walking in. I know how important it is but I'm just so tired sometimes, and it's now very hot. I hate the summer, honestly. If it wasn't for the female attire I'd move to Alaska. But I digress... I hope all you May-ers are doing well! Joe D. Distal RNY (open) 5/9/05 Dr. Iqbal 446/398/199?
