Not doing well... need a friend

My surgery was May 23rd. So that makes me about 2 weeks out. My throat still hurts like razor blades in it since before I left the hospital due to an infection. I can't swallow without pain. I'm maybe getting 50-80 calories in a day... had some applesauce, and some babyfood pears... Not getting any fluid in... suppose I could put it through the G-Tube... was doing that last week. Just feeling too despondent to give a crap... I just want to sleep and cry. I'm itchy from the tape on my tummy that replaced the staples. I'm almost out of the liquid hydrocodone, which also makes me itch. I'm just miserable and need someone to pray for me and tell me I'm going to be okay. Cause i don't feel okay at all. Shannon

Shannon, call your surgeon ASAP!! You are seriously risking your health and possibly your life! If you have to use the G-Tube for fluids, do it, that's why it's there. Not doing it is like resigning yourself to die... I know you feel like crap and are miserable, but you're going to continue to feel that way until you get hydrated and and get some nourishment. Let your surgeon know exactly what's going on so you can get he medical help you need!!!

Dear Shannon, I know how you feel. I was miserable at 2 weeks also. As of yesterday, I am three months post-op. I've lost 40 pounds and 36 inches. It does get better. My throat was hurting, as well as my tongue and mouth, shortly after leaving the hospital. I was diagnosed with Thrush. Is that what you have? I was given some awesome medication, and it kicked in the next day. This helped to numb my mouth, and then I could get some food and water down. This helped me feel better. My tape was itchy, too. Can you remove it and use a 'belly band' or the equivalent of a wide Ace Bandage to wrap around your mid-section to keep your incision area tight? It does get better. Hang in there and e-mail if you need a friend. Sincerely, Debbie

Shannon, I am praying for you right now. I agree that you need to contact your surgeon right away. I am so sorry that you are so uncomfortable, but I know that there are many things that the doctors can do, and please insist that they get you some relief quickly. Meanwhile, I am going to continue to keep you in my prayers and I am certain that you will feel better very very soon. Take care and God bless. ~Wanda

Shannon, I am only two weeks and one day out but, everyday will bring a little more sunshine than the day before. I will definitely pray for you and if I can help please send me an email. Remember, use the G tube so that you stay hydrated and contact your doctor as needed because that is why he is there. Take Care of yourself and Prayers will be sent up for you.

Hi Shannon - I'm so sorry to hear that you are having problems. I agree with the others, you should call your surgeon! I just had my surgery on May 16th, and I know that there was a couple of days that I was really questioning what I had done. Things will be okay! It will get better! Hang in there - we are all in this together! I am praying for you..."Father, Please embrace Shannon in this time of need, give her relief from the pain that she is experiencing, help her to get the nurisishment that she so desperately needs at this time. Let her feel your warm embracement, so that she might know that it will get better in the days to come. Lift her spirits, so that she knows that she is loved and supported. Please bless her with quick healing! In Jesus' name...Amen!" Kimber

Thank you all for your concern and kindness. I'm worried about me too. On Friday I had to go to my PCP for a followup/checkup from the surgery. Within minutes I was hooked up to an IV for the whole day. I was given something for the nausea and stomach cramping, and was put back on antidepressants (Liquid Prozac)... My throat is better, but I still don't WANT to eat or drink,... I've been putting Glucerna (diabetic protein shake) in the G-Tube three times a day to get to my required 600 calories, but I have to be nagged to even do that. I'd like to snap out of this soon and be myself again, but right now I"m shut down and feeling miserable and sorry for myself, and driving hubby nuts with it all. This is the first time I've been online in days and days. I"ve been assured it's going to get better... but I'm not seeing it yet. THank you for listening. I love you all for being there for me... even when I'm not being there for myself. Shannon
