How many calories are you getting?
I'm almost five weeks out and usually get 450-550 calories a day. That seems a little low! I'm a tiny lass (4'10") so my caloric needs are a bit lower than the typical person, but still... And now that I'm back at the gym, that intake seems far too low. My surgeon's office says not to worry about calories at this point, and that I'm fine with my current intake as long as I'm getting in all the protein (I've been getting 60-75g daily since the beginning).
Out of curiosity, how many calories are you other May babies taking in?
I'm 3 weeks out. I've had the same concerns. If I can get a couple of milk-based protein shakes in, I can get my calorie count up to almost 800, but typically, I only run around 500 or so. For a few days, I couldn't even get in 400 because I was so sick of the milk.
I checked in with my Nut and she said that they do prefer we keep the calories up around 800 and suggested mixing my protein with 100% juice if I couldn't do the milk. I tried it *once* and it was so gross, I decided to put up with the milk...
That might not be so bad if you pick the right protein. If I could find 100% peach or raspberry juice, it would probably be tasty mixed with the Nectar iced tea. Hmm, maybe I'll try that.
Meanwhile, I'm going to add more milk to my daily routine. Carb Countdown 2% is yummy - that's 100 calories, 12g protein, and 350mg calcium for 1 cup. I've given up on milk-based protein shakes for now. They don't make me sick, but I just don't want anything chocolate or vanilla. Wow, that's a major lifestyle change...
I have been averaging about 430 calories per day. Don't worry about that number though, focus on the protein and the fluids. Take your multi-vitamin and you will be fine.
That low number just seems so unreal though. I did have a little freakout over it earlier this week. I have a lot of energy and I'm getting plenty of protein, milk & water, so I guess I'm doing something right.
Take care,
J
