Help! Protein Suggestions Needed!

Can someone help me find a protein that won't make me feel ill? I was using Optisource, but it was too sweet and I dumped after the 3rd day (didn't expect THAT to happen so soon post-op!). Then, I switched to Designer Whey, which worked for 1 week, but now that's starting to make me feel really queasy too! I need a flavorless one I can mix into things or some recipes that will work and not make me sick. Please, please, please help! I'm 2 weeks post-op today, and I stopped losing last week (probably due to lack of protein absorption). In exchange for your advice, I'll tell you the "BEST THING EVER". Really, that's what I've named it. "The Best Thing Ever" is a sno-cone machine made by Rival and available at Target. Here's the kicker: they make SUGAR FREE SYRUPS!!! It's the first thing I've found that can quench my thirst, and it helps me get my fluids in. Even the syrups are good, though sometimes I just use diluted cran juice or the like. This little gadget has made my fluid intake SO MUCH EASIER!!! Hope you like it!!! Thanks in advace for your help!!! Gina - Lap RnY - May 23

I've been thinking about getting the sno-cone machine. Bought a Magic Bullet a couple of weeks ago and don't know what I'd do without it! If you're not lactose intolerant, try this: 10 oz milk, 1/3 - 1/2 cup nonfat dry milk, flavoring of your choice (I use CIB, but the s/f syrups work too). Depending on the type of milk, you can get anywhere from 20 - 25g Protein. The dry milk doesn't really make it taste any different, a little creamier, maybe. I use Carb Countdown milk, but others use Skim or 1 or 2%, others I've talked to use Lactaid milk. I also use AnyWhey, but it's not my favorite. I drink a lot of Nectar iced tea and roadside lemonade but try to get at least one milk-based shake in a day or I can't get my calorie count over 400 calories. Good luck!

I've tried two unflavored proteins, and they're both pretty decent - Unjury and AnyWhey. Shaved ice is a wonderful thing, and I have one of those machines! I use the SF syrups from DaVinci Gourmet - orange, raspberry, and lime are great, but experiment with their other flavors. Almond shaved ice is pretty darned good...

I was given Worldwide Pure Protein shakes in the hospital post-op and have been drinking them at home.....now 13 days post-op. They have 35 grams of protein in 11 oz and come in great flavors. Served cold they taste good.....and I put them in a lunch cooler bag for the road. I get them from the GNC store......do you know about the Gold Card.....costs $15 but they give you a 20% discount the first week of every month on everything you buy. Good luck! God Bless Sally

Gina - I know how you feel. I found that carnation instant breakfast with AnyWhey protein from GNC works that best for me. I make a 8oz thing with skim milk. There is 30 grams of protein in 8 oz but I can only drink 4 oz at one meal. I have one every morning and evening. I also bought a sno cone maker, and I love it and the kids are eating the sugar free syrups too!!!!!!!!! Laurie

I totally understand where you are!! I bought two things of Nectar(lemon ice tea flavor and berry flavor) from bariatriceating and even though it says it will taste just like iced tea THEY LIED. To me it was like drinking tea with meat powder...of course lots of people like this stuff. I 've dried the Optisource, something else nasty from GNC and some stuff from Target. I can tolerate the Slim fast low carb shakes (20 g protein). I now finally found Matrix (perfect chocolate) that actually tastes like I'm cheating. I got it at bariatriceating.cm That snowcones sound wonderful!!! I guess really everybody has different taste buds. I'm stuck with 120 bucks worth of protein powder tubs! I'll take them with me to a support group I suppose and give them away. Good luck to you!!

Sure! Once I get done with some of them, I'll send them to you. I'm in a 24 now, and once those are too big, they're yours. K? Gina - RnY - May 23 (2 weeks Post-op!)

Try mixing the tea with CL. I mix it with either the peach tea or lemon tea crystal light -1/2 to 1 scoop per 25 ozs of CL and it tastes fine. It will "settle" though, so you'll have to shake it or stir every once in a while.
