The Torture Chamber

Hi Everyone, I have been having a real problem with diarrhea. Ever couple of days I end up in the bathroom for a good five hours. I don't know what is causing it. I have put myself back on a liquid diet, but that doesn't even help. I thought maybe it could be my vitamins, but I didn't take any yesterday because I spent the morning in the torture chamber. I did have some protein drink mixed with water, Pro-Rated from Costco. BUT this does not always preceed a 'torture chamber' experience. Anyone got any ideas???? I'm getting desperate as I am an elementary teacher and will be back to school tomorrow... Thanks, Kristen PS Immodium is my friend, is that ok?

Is it possible you're dehydrated? The first time may have been something that just didn't agree but by nature, caused you to become dehydrated, which, we all know, causes MORE diarrhea, which, of course, causes MORE dehydration... How much fluid are you getting in? Even if it's not deyhdration, make sure to drink even MORE than normal to ensure you DON'T become dehydrated. My dad got a nasty stomach bug last year and a couple of days later, I took him some juice/gatorade/jello type stuff and to check on him. One look and I knew he was in trouble. When I got him to the ER, his BP was 60/30 and his organs were beginning to shut down. Very scary, and very quick... Luckily, he's okay now but was in the hospital for a week. As far as the immodium, I don't remember what my doc said and can't find my list. I'd call your surgeon tomorrow and find out what you can take. Maybe he/she can give you a prescription for something a little stronger... Becky

Maybe lactose intolerance? Are you having regular milk? If so, maybe try using Lactaid for a couple of days and see if your problem goes away.

Hi Everyone, Thank you for the outpouring of information. I will avoid milk products and call my doctor. Today turned out to be a good day. So, I'm hoping for a good one for tomorrow. I did have a little yogurt this morning and that seemed to go down well. When I was having my little attack, even drinking water would send me to the bathroom. I'll just play it by ear and keep all your suggestions to refer to. Thank you so much for all of your help!!!! Kristen

My surgery was 5/19 and I have had similar issues. My nutritionist feels that I am eating something that is too high fat. I have yet to make the connection. I too love Immodium. I hope it is ok. Jessica
