Stephanie I have been going thru the exact same thing for weeks. The only thing I could get down easily was broth from my own homemade chicken soup. I drank as much of it as I could. Then i was ok til week 3 then it started all over again. All I can say is keep sipping and do your best to get fluids in. I too cannot do protein shakes they are just nasty. Today is the first day I feel actually human. So it does get better. Please dont let urself get dehydrated and if ur intake gets worse call ur dr immediately. good luck hugssssssss Krista

I had surgery the same day as you and I am having the same problem! I feel like crap. Nothing goes down. I havent found a shake yet either. I was so happy that yesterday was a good day for me, I didnt dry heave once! I actually drank 16 oz. of water too! Wish I could say the same for today, because I am back to feeling like crap. All I can say is sip really cold water and popsicles. I tried broccoli cheddar soup thinned out with milk, and I thought I was gonna die. It cemented in my pouch and I couldnt breathe! So I stick to broth now! Good Luck to you! Kathy

Guys, I can't do plain water by itself. The one thing that seemed to work for the first few weeks was warm mint tea with splenda and sugar free popsicles. Everyone says that it gets better, I guess I can say that too. LOL. I am able to get in more liquid, I am drinking tea, crystal light lemonade, Minute Maid Light, lemonade and Guava Citrus, Grape flavor Propel, more tea. I found out this weekend that I can tolerate beef, not chicken. I thought I was going to die. Stick with what works when you find it. This is hard, harder than I ever imagined. Forget about the protein drinks, good god, who on earth thinks these things are good. Every time I drink one and it is nasty, I say who the heck drinks these and thinks their good as I am spitting the first sip out in the sink. Hang in there guys. Melissa 286/253/?

Hey Stephanie, I'm sorry to hear that you are feeling so bad I know it's got be ruff. I myself am 5 weeks out and i've been lucky except for one complication that landed me back in the hospital I thought I had a stricture but it ended up being an ulcer. With this ulcer my stomach can be tricky and I take prevacid which helps keep the gas down. At 10 days post-op I was feeling alright I never got sick, when I got the ulcer at 3 weeks out I wasn't able to hold anything down. Protein shakes aren't fun, but the ones i've found that I can tolerate are the Atkins Advanage shakes. My sense of smell is pretty strong so the first thing I do is pour the shake into a cold glass I keep in the fridge. It makes it more like a real shake without the proteiny smell. Also I got sick of broth beef, chicken, etc ewwwwwwwwww, but now I use the seasoning packet out of raman noodles for broth there are more flavors and you can make it stronger or weaker depending on the amount of water you use with it. If your nausea persists maybe your dr can give you some type of anti-nausea med to help you out. The protein is important at your stage but fluids are even more so!!! If water isn't getting it for you try the crystal lights, fruit h20, etc anything to help your fluid intake. Hope you start feeling better soon. Kriss

I'm so sorry you are feeling so bad. I'm not having the same problems as you but I did prepare and purchased this "Iaopure" flavored water that has 40 grams of protien in a 20 oz. serving and no carbs with only 160 callories. I spoke to my surgeon about it before I left the hospital and he said it was fine. I am 5 days post op. I hear that the protien really makes us heal faster and have more enery. It's not cheap but well worth the expense. You'll find it at a health food or vitamin shop. Really hope you start feeling better. D
