Itching like crazy!

It started with the belly. I thought my incisions were just acting up - you know how scars itch. But then my back and legs started itching. And itching. And itching! Maybe it's due to my new surgeon-mandated low-fat diet. Or do I need more fluids? For now, cocoa butter lotion is keeping me sane. Anyone else cursed with the itchies?

Are you taking any pain meds? Could be morphine/codeine. Those can cause the itchies. Drink more water!!! Best wishes, Kathy

I've read that painkillers and anesthesia can cause itchiness, but my surgery was four weeks ago; I only had one dose of morphine in the hospital, and took my last Tylenol 3 w/codeine back on May 6. By now the effects should be long gone!

I thought it was a looooong stretch that you were still on meds but thought I'd throw that out. Only suggestion is to drink more water! Kathy lap RNY 5/20/2005~ 5'7.75"~ 276/244/229/? (consult/preop/curr/goal) Hubby Rich open RNY 8/5/2004~ 6'5"~ 450/437/257/?

Could it be allergies? Changes in the weather, maybe? Maybe you should see if you could take some Benadryl and see if that helps? It comes in liquid form, so no pill to crush. I had itchies, but I was breaking out from the tape used on my bandages. I even blistered. Once I took off the wraps, wore VERY loose clothes, mostly nightgowns, they healed over and stopped itching.

Oh my God!!!! Did I itch like crazy starting about 2 days post op. At first I thought okay maybe I need to take a shower. Then I remembered from nursing school that itching is often a side effect of high doses of antibiotics which i was on in the hospital. Well a day after the antibiotics were removed no more itch. I itched so bad I thought mabe my hospital bed had fleas lol. I'm sure its related to your meds. Once you come off of them I'm sure you you won't itch anymore. Morgan try the ani itch creams

I'm long off the meds! It's odd, I didn't feel itchy in the hospital or immediately afterwards. But now, four weeks out, it's scratching time. I think it's just dry skin, which is an unusual sensation for me. (even at age 40, I have normal or oily skin everywhere)

Your skin is probably dry from the low cal/low fat diet, and also it might be shrinking! p.s. the morphine made me itch like a madwoman...

Probably. My lips and skin are very dry. I just use lotion and chapstick like a mad woman and it helps! Hope you're feeling better!
