Memorial Day remorse
I'm three weeks out today and I weighed in this morning down 40 lbs. - woohoo! But I knew today would be a difficult day.
We had a small BBQ at my brother's house. I brought my Magic Bullet to puree things, but decided my teeth were sufficient. (Read: I didn't want to feel like an idiot throwing good food into a blender.) I chewed everything very well and kept the quantity reasonable, I think. (Maybe 1 cup total?)
I had no discomfort but I feel like I cheated. I had about 1/3 of a stuffed mushroom, maybe 1 oz. grilled chicken breast w/no sauce, 2-3 tbsp. potato salad, about the same amount of homemade guacamole (I did sneak in 1 chip), some of the veggies from the pasta salad, a couple cubes of melon, and the creme center of a creme puff (made with Cool Whip Free).
So why do I feel guilty? Because I didn't puree? Because I ate too much? Because I DIDN'T get sick? I dunno why, but I do. By the same token, I don't feel I "had my fill" because my fill used to be 10 times as much. This is a tremendous emotional adjustment!
I'm not sure what I'm looking for here. Comfort me, scold me, or correct me, but someone say something! LOL

Joe,
If you did not get sick...that is great. The get togethers have to be the hardest time for me in the last 3 weeks! By the way, way impressed you got checken down with no sauce. That has been one of my hardest thing is how DRY food is that is not soft!!!
40 lbs...WOW!!!!!! that is so awesome!!!!!! I was bummed yesterday because I only lost 4 lbs last week but that puts me at 25 lbs total, of course I got out the scale this morning and I had lost another pound, so I am not stressing so far!!!
I have not had any sickness with anything I have eaten so far, just a tough time getting food down! You are doing great, don't stress it to hard!!!
Heidi
Hi Heidi
Well, the chicken wasn't that dry - my brother works magic! Plus, I took a bit of potato salad with it so it made a smooth mixture.
25 lbs. in 3 weeks is great! That's over 8 lbs. a wee****ep it up!
And I'm sure things will start going down more easily for you. Fortunately, it's 5 weeks until the next holiday, eh?
well Heidi you and Joe are doing much better than me!! I had my surgery on the 6th and I have only lost 23 lbs. I am doing everything by the book and getting in my walks and protein and have been fortunate to be able to eat anything I have tried. ( I havent tried anything I shouldnt so far ) I only got sick once and I think I ate too fast or didnt chew enough. It was fish on the BBQ and I had it before and did fine so I am sure it was not chewed enough or something. I guess I will be a slow loser. In the last 11 days I have only lost 3 lbs. I guess I hit that 3-5 week plateau. I pray that it gets a good boost soon!

Hey Chylene
It sounds liek you're doign great! You're eating what you should, getting yoru exercise and protein, and hopefully your water also. Keep up the great work!
It interesting that you feel you are a slow loser. 23 lbs. in 3 1/2 weeks is very good! And even though things have slowed down this week, you're still losing, so don't be too quick to label it a plateau. Later, when we're both stuck motionless for a month, then we'll comiserate.
As for me losing faster, understand that me 1) being a male and 2) starting at 441 lbs, naturally, I would lose a bit faster. (Women always sneered at my at the Weigh****chers meetings.)
You just keep up the great work!
Joe
scolding here!!! I am 2 weeks out and am not suppose to start pureeed food till next monday. Well, I couldn't help myself and I skipped pureed and went straight to soft food. I had about 3 oz. of homemade crab cake and about 1/3c of banana pudding. Then I had the nerve to ask after I had finished it, "is the sugar-free". The answer was "heck no" so now I know I do not on small amount of sugar. Is that a blessing or a curse?? I don't know. I go for my 2 week check-up today so "shhhhh, don't tell"!!!!

Joe, I am one week post op today and I do understand the Holiday BBQ Test. I faired o.k. because I am scared that I am going to end up back in the hospital. I am a scaredy cat. I did sneak 4 Funyon Onion Rings and they are my favorite. I only had to chew a little and they dissolved. I think you are doing fine too! The main thing is that you understood the importance of chewing. I am getting a little brave. I have not tried any real sugar though because I would ******vous WRECK!!
I stand in awe of you. LOL! I'm only one week post-op, and because of teh Memorial Day BBQ's and the fact that I'm the primary chef for my family, I've had a tough time not taking a taste here and there. I'm so glad that you were able to tolerate those foods, and that you didn't upchuck (eewww). I don't know that I would've had the intestinal fortitude to try solid foods and risk yarfing in front of so many people (family or otherwise). My question is this: are you going to tell your doctor and find out if he/she thinks it's okay for you to start eating again now, since you tolerated it so well? I think I would.
