Help
Cathy,
Everyone's diet is different after surgery, depending on their doctor, type of procedure, etc. What are you on? Clear Liquids? Full Liquids? Pureeds? If you can give some more info, maybe we could throw out some suggestions for you.
Becky
-16 pounds, 12 days out
PS - I'm closing out week 2 of 4 of full liquids, and it bites the big one, so I totally understand the sticking to the diet thing....
Twenty pounds is great! Congratulations!
Check with your Nut, but for me, full liquids includes:
Runny Cream of Wheat or Runny Oatmeal
NSA Applesauce
Runny Instant Mashed potatoes
Beans - Navy, pinto, black, etc. cooked and mushy
FF Refried beans
Cottage Cheese
Low Fat soft cheese - like mozzarella sticks
SF Jello and pudding
Strained cream soups
NSA yogurt
That's the gist of it... I've found that I'm living off of refried beans with a couple of shreds of cheese. I even found a refried black bean variety with lime juice that's really good too.
Also, my Nut said I could pretty much use whatever I wanted seasoning-wise, and that helps shake it up a little too.
Both my hubby and I had this done this month... I am already nearing my 3 week mark. I should be on puree, but I am tolerating a little more. Follow what the nutritionist says but you just have to believe this is the hardest part and SOON... VERY SOON it is over. Full liquid for me was runny cream of wheat
blenderized soups (runny)
Sugar free pudding
Yogurt
Puree was a bit more liberal... one thing... on puree, if you like cream cheese, you will love pureed cottage cheese, tastes the same. Buy unflavored protein and hide it in everything... less shakes that way. And remember that milk is high in protein as you are sipping away.
Keep busy and remember the first few weeks go fast!
I went to a health food store next to my house (The Health Hut). If you go to any of teh health food stores near you and ask them for wither natural or unflavored whey protein ( they also have soy if you prefer, but I think whey mixes better). Start by putting it in your blender with your soups, puddings and yogurts or whatever.... give it a shot, I generally use 1/4 to 1/2 a scoop. My hubby has done a full scoop but it makes thinkgs thick so you need to add a little water. I know you can also do a google search and buy it online, name brand does not matter as long as it is natural or unflavored. Good LucK!
