I'm 12 days post-op. Tonight, for the 2nd time since I got home, my wife made pizza for our kids and her, which happens to be my favorite food. I was upset and proceeded to have 2x the amount I should be eating of the food I can eat. I didn't vomit; I didn't even get nausea. I did get a very uncomfortable feeling and a bit of fright at expanding my pouch too much. I ate 3/4 cup of food! I'm supposed to eat 1 cup at 1 year post-op! I must, must, must find a way to deal with my emotions other than eating.

WOW! That sounds so tought! I can only recommend going to support meetings in your area. If there are no WLS support meetings try OA. I am sure you have tried this, but discuss this with your family. Tell them that it is dangerous for you. I am due for my surgery in 2 weeks, however I wouldn't be able to do it under those conditions. Good Luck to you!

Tom, Here is what has helped me: My husband and kids eat foods that I would not normally like, and they are also trying to eat healthy to help me through this When they eat, I go walk. I time it that way every day. They are not cooking much at all, eating things like sandwiches, etc., again, just to help me though the first month. It was hard for me the first week or two, but it really does get better. I promise! What did you eat?

That's pretty much how we're handling it at my house too. With the exception of a couple of days where I cooked a full meal, my family has been doing the "Fend-for-yourself" diet: frozen burritos, sandwhiches, bag salads, etc. Still, sometimes, and particularly at night, I have a hard time dealing with watching them eat so I walk too. In fact, I've found that the last 3-4 days, every afternoon, around 4 or 5, I become irritable to the point of psychotic and have to leave the house before I choke someone. I know it's just hormones, and it will pass, but my poor husband is every afternoon waiting for the she-wolf to show up!

I hear you on the hormone thing! Everyone is walking on eggshells around me. It does seem to be getting a lot better, though.

I'm just amazed that at 12 days you can have pizza I'm on clear liquids for two weeks...then pureed for 4 weeks. Jean Lap RNY 5/24/05

Jean - I'm not having pizza...that's what made this so tough. Watching my family eat what I cannot have, but crave so much! I'm still on pureed foods too.

I had a similar problem last week when my loving fam decided to have micro popcorn and bake some cookies! (THE NERVE)! I had posted it and someone e-mailed me privately saying that putting some vapor rub under your nose before others start preparing foods YOU CRAVE helps. I thought it was an absolute stroke of genius! Figured I'd pass it on! I'm 1 week post-op today and down 15lbs whooohooo! HUGGS

Keep that will power going! Yesterday my nephew graduated from medical scool and there was a gala celebration following at a fancy catering hall. I went in with my wife, had a nice cold glass of water and said my hello's. When they announced the "BUFFET WAS NOW OPEN" we smiled and left bye! bye! I was eyeing the standing rib roast, could have eaten the carvers arm and the roast I was happy I could leave and come home to my broth....yeah sure My wife is cooperating with my diet as is having protein shakes and the like with me....no hungry kids to feed here so I'm lucky. Perhaps you should go for a nice long walk while the wife and kids eat? Then you dont have to deal with the visual and smells..... Keep the faith ! Ken

Tom- please don't beat yourself up about it. Take one day at a time, and maybe just get out of the house and walk when they eat. Good luck.
