Sugery date 5/25 and nervous

In many ways I am very excited my sugery is Wednesday, but seem to be getting more nervous by the minute. My Doctor gave me Xanax that I could take up to three times a day and so far I had not needed them until today. This morning I read on The Today Show website that Al Roker had a fellow email him and tell him he had watch him through his weight loss sugery and now was going to have it himself. Al said he just email back and said best of luck. The fellow died from the sugery and Al had his wife on the show to let people know this is a very serious surgery & people do die. Now..........I am really nervous. I am doing this for myself (I am 49 years old) with a 8 year old daughter who I need to live heathery and be here for many, many, years to come. Please keep me in your prayers. Betty

Betty, You will be in my prayers for a safe surgery and a smooth recovery. I also watched that program a while ago and felt the same as you. I know everything will turn out good. Please let us know when you get home. Patti

{{{hugsss}}} Betty I seen that show too a few months ago. Just remember do what your doctor says and believe in yourself. I had my surgery on the 17th and if i didnt know better I would not believe I have even had surgery. I got to my room at 230 and asked to walk at 4 granted I could only make it to the end of the hall but it was a start. Try to relax and know that your doing the right thing. Betty, My surgery is thursday, so i know how you feel! I'm 36, and live in nyc..... i have no family here, my folks aren't healthy enough to visit me during my hospital stay (although they totally support me in doing this), but at least i have 2 good friends here, who will visit me so i don't feel all alone. It's scary, i know, but thankfully, at least you have the love & support of your family. Also, i think the person who wrote Al, then passed away died from a leak. I'm not a 100% sure, but i'm almost certian thats what it was. Have your doctor do a leak test to put your mind at ease... most do it anyway. Blood clots & leaks are our biggest enemys... i had a greenfild filter put in to help protect against blood clot****ting my heart, or lungs, plus i'll be on heperin shots for about 2 weeks for further protection. betty my surgery is tomorrow and i too am feeling very nervous about it. not so much the surgery itself, but the anethesia. there are 5 friends i have here and they have all had the surgery and no complications at all. same hospital and same surgeon. i have complete confidence in him, its myself i am doubting. am i doing the right thing? is this really what GOD wants me to do? am i risking my life by having it done? questions like that are driving me crazy. i will say a prayer for you right now and try to encourage you to put your faith in GOD and let him be in control. that is what i am tring to do. best of luck and hang in there, in the long run i believe we are doing the right thing. robin

PLEASE,PLEASE READ THIS!!!.I HAD OPEN RNY 10/8/2003 AND SO FAR HAVE LOST 162LBS!!!.THERE ARE SOME PEOPLE WHO HAVE HAD VERY SERIOUS HEALTH PROBLEMS RELATED TO THEIR WEIGHT AND WERE INFORMED THAT THE SURGERY WOULD BE AN OPTION.BUT IF THEY HAD PROBLEMS FOR A LONG PERIOD OF TIME THE SURGERY MAY NOT HELP..SO PLEASE DON'T BE SCARED...THIS COULD HAVE BEEN FROM PRE-EXISTING WEIGHT LOSS-RELATED ISSUES.I HOPE THAT HELPS...

Hey Betty, I had surgery on the May 13th (friday the 13th), and I too was positivly sure about my decision .... but also scared to death. I have two daughers 10 and 11, and a son who will be 2 next week. The thing that got me through the nerveousness was knowing if I did not have this surgery I knew I would die a lot sooner then I should, and I want to live to see my children grow up. I will be praying for you .... I hope that I have helped in someway. To me the surgery and recovery has been a lot easier then I excpected. my sugery is the same day the 25th its coming up so fast i am also nervous and scared but i am thinking of all the first i will be able to do after the surgery and i start losing weight... like the first time i get to cross my legs and not at the ankles..lol and going threw everyones elses clothes so i have something that will fit me after... i also have 2 kids 14 and 10 and would like to live a more healthier life for them and for me. i pray every night to god just to bring me threw this safely. bonnie j
