HOW MUCH PROTEIN SHOULD I BE GETTING..
Hi Tracey
Your surgeon is really the one to answer this question, but I'm sure the answer is at LEAST 60 grams per day. You can get some of that through food, but supplementation is crucial (though some would disagree). I'm still in the full liquid phase and I'm drinking 3-4 protein shakes, each with 30 grams of protein.
He's right...your surgeon or nutritionist should be providing this guidance for you since they have your medical history and know all about you. However, at the program I went to they say a minimum of 75g of protein per day, more if you're bigger to start. I weighed about 425 at surgery, so they've advised me to try to get a little more. I'm struggling to get to 75g, but that's the minimum threshold they give all their patients there.

Hey,
I was also told that 75gms was going to be my minimum when I met with the Dietician. You can add things to your protein to "beef" it up (so to speak). If you use a powdered protein, you of course have to add the grams of protein in the milk. But you can also add some additional protein from other protein powders. It may make it thicker, but it will be SUPER concentrated with EXTRA protein!

Tracey,
My surgeon put me on 60-80 grams a day, which I get with 3 shakes a day with about 30 or so grams per shake. It seems as thou I am always drinking something. Good Luck to you.
