I had surgery on the 15th... I am sore, wouldn't call it pain though...I was wondering though...when did you guys have your first bowel movement?

Congratulations on being on the losing side! It might depend on whether or not your surgeon required the infamous bowel prep. Mine didn't, but I ate lightly the day before, and ate nothing in the 20 hours before surgery (it was supposed to be 14 hours but my surgeon got delayed for a long long time!) My surgery was on a Tuesday, and since nothing had happened yet I took a dose of milk of magnesia Sunday night. The bottle promised "gentle overnight relief" and definitely delivered.

I had my surgery on a Tuesday, and I didn't have any thing until Friday afternoon, and it was explosive and runny. That lasted for about 5 days. Just now getting to soft BM stage. I guess it all depends on what your doctor has you eating. I'm on clear liquids, so liquids in = liquids out. Good luck! Deanna

I had my surgery on the 10th & didn't have a BM till the 16th. My Dr. puts his patients on liquids 2 weeks before surgery & then the day before with the wonderful cleanse. I am on liquids for two weeks after also. I am sure that's why it was so long for me. I was told by a nurse that once all the gas pains start it usually about 2-3 days and then you will have a BM. I went a few days with no gas pains so..... Hope this helps. Tracy
