Need suggestions for protein for soft phase

6 days post op and can now have soft protein foods. I never liked fish (unless it was fried!) or tuna. Basically ate chicken, lean ground beef, eggs, cheese. I did have a bit of scrambled egg today for lunch with a bit of cheese on it (yummmmm). I am told chicken and ground beef are not moist enough for the new pouch so I don't dare try those so soon. Anyone have any tips?

Very moist chicken and beef is fine. Just make sure is is ground up fine with mayonaisse, etc. Do you have a Magic Bullet blender? Mush everything up in that - it tasts great!

I've got a cooking tip for you... chicken breast is pretty darned dry on its own. Brining is your friend! 1 quar****er 1/4 cup kosher salt seasonings like peppercorns, garlic, and herbs (optional) Dissolve the salt into the water, then drop in your chicken into the salty water. I put the chicken and brine into a Ziploc bag if it'll fit (a whole 3.5lb chicken will just barely fit into a 1-gallon bag), or into a plastic container if it won't. Brine whole chickens in the fridge for 4-6 hours, skinless boneless chicken breasts for 45min-1 hour. Wash the chicken off for at least 30 seconds, or else the chicken is going to be salty as heck! Now, cook it the way you normally would. The chicken - even the breast - will come out super-juicy. Most supermarket pork these days is very lean and thus easily dried out, so brine your pork roasts and tenderloins too (plus any pork you plan to grill, including boneless chops). And need I mention how fabulous this is for turkey? 84 hours until I see my surgeon and get cleared for soft foods...

Dark meat chicken should be fine, so should tuna, but remember chew chew chew! How about cottage cheese? I would avoid beef, many cannot tolerate it for a few months after surgery. I'm jealous of you. I'm 8 days out and still on clear liquids. Oh well, surgeons differ. Best of luck to you! Joe

Cottage cheese has protein in it. I eat that, eggs, yogurt, protein shakes and refried beans. I have tried chicken and tuna but I have a hard time right now with the meats. Good Luck! Stacy 346/323/?

Hey Abby You can just go to Taco Bell and order a side item of beans and cheese, which is YUMMY. At a grocery store, I found the refried beans in the section where the taco fixin's are, such as the shells and the salsa. Good luck Stacy
