Post op drain pain?
Is anyone else post op still experiencing some pain in the area where they removed the drain? I had my surgery last Thursday, the 12th, and I came home yesterday. I am sooo sore where the drain was removed. As I cough, move around, walk, etc. I feel some severe soreness. Just curious if others have experienced this and how long it lasted. My dr. sent me home wtih percocet, and I'm trying not to take too many of them, but curious how long this typically lasts.
Thanks!
Ok, this may be a silly question but I have to ask it. Is the drain you're referring to the tube that was up your nose and down your throat or are you referring to the JT tube???? If it was about the nose tube, yes, I have a knot in my throat where it was rubbing and I attribute that to why its difficult for me to eat because I always feel a little sick. Or is it the JT tube? Mine is supposed to be removed next Wednesday and I can't wait. Although that tube is less bothersome than the G-tube.
Do you have pain on your left side? Its not at any incision point and I'm assuming by the posts that I've read that its the tubes inside or the ballon from the G-tube. Either way, that pain is what's really slowing my recovery because except for that (and my minor throat pain) I'm feeling alot better....
I can't wait until I'm totally healed and loosing pounds and pounds!!!

Coming out of surgery, I had 3 tubes coming out of me. One went up my nose and down my throat and that drain came out the very next morning. That one was for drainage. The second 2 tubes I went home with. One is called a JT tube and it comes out in one week. The JT is a drainage tube also. The third tube is called the G-tube and that one comes out in about 5 weeks. If I'm correct, the purpose of the tube is some drainage, to excel gas, and feeding (water, meds, protien shakes) if necessary. Now I know someone replied that their surgeon didn't use any tubes. I think its the discretion of the surgeon because one of the tubes I recall is not regularly used by all surgeons (I think its the G-tube). Don't let the tubes scare you though.... although they can be annoying, they may sound worse than they really are.

I was in so much pain in my side, that I went to Emergency on Sat. I was admitted, where they tested for leaks, found none, then treated my pain with IV meds. I was released today, and I am still in a lot of pain. The other drain is due to be removed this Wednesday. The pain I experience is a burning sensation that renders me helpless and in great agony. I have pain meds, but I don't know if they're contributing to this burning pain or not. Once I land in a position, I am lothe to move, as certain movements trigger the pain. Hope you feel 100% soon. Hi Wanda
I had my surgery May 6th and the way they ripped that drain out of me I swear they did damage! I am still in a LOT of pain where the drain was and between the drain and my incision(I had Open RNY). 11 days out and it is a little better than it was. Some people have said they felt it for months, others say that they had NO pain or discomfort with the drain. So I guess the old adage that everyone is different holds true here. Good luck hun with the pain...and know that there are people out there who are going through the same thing.
