liquid diet before
I only had to be on a liquid diet the day before surgery. It helps clear your bowels and such out since they'll be working in that "area". I also had to do a - - phosphate soda thing that is DISGUSTING, but it works - it cleaned me out the night before surgery. However because of that I was VERY dehydrated going into surgery (diarreah does that). So make sure you buy a thing called SMAR****ER (found at health food stores) or propel - it's water that has electrolytes in it that replenish you when you have the runs. I didn't hydrate myself well night before surgery so I woke up from surgery DYING of thirst. My mouth and throat were so dry. They gave me ice chips - my gosh - they were heaven!! And I am not an ice eater, but man - they were gourmet to me
I'm on liquids. I'm supposed to have 70 grams of protein a day which is about 3 protein shakes+. I can have soup but it has to be low carb. Total carbs on the day = 30 or less. I can drink water, sugar free/no carb beverages. You can have sugar free jello and popsicles. You can have soy milk, low carb milk, V8 juice (but remember to add the carbs in), etc.
Yesterday had Unjury unflavored protein in my decaf coffee with sweet n' low. It takes a bit to dissolve but it ends up being like Cremora and makes the coffee creamy! I had Nectar Lemon Tea protein drink mixed with decaf brewed tea over ice. I like it that way. Mixed with jus****er it is a bit bland, I thought. Then I had instant chicken broth that has protein in it. Then another Nectar Lemon Tea. Finally, had a chocolate protein shake (don't know the brand - got it a long time ago at Costco) make with Hood Carb Countdown Chocolate Milk.
Today, I make iced decaf coffee with Unjury with a splash of cream in it. Was out at lunch time and had some chicken broth (didn't have protein in it) and a few spoons full of hubby's cream of broccoli soup. Now I'm having my Nectar Lemon Tea drink.
I'm going to make some sugar free jello tonight. I cannot have the Jello sugar free brand since I get migranes from aspartame so I make my own using unsweetened Koolaide packs, water, gelatin and splenda.
Good luck, Kathy
Hi Stephanie
Congrats on your date! Mine is the 23rd, and I'm also told to be on a liquid diet, starting tomorrow. I bought a package of the Carbwise chocolate shakes, and some more diet soda, and some V-8. Other than that, I also don't know what liquids I can get in that are okay, AND will fill me up. I"m afraid if I feel hungry i'm going to eat something that I can't have. Good Luck!
Shannon
