anyone NOT have to do bowel prep?
I was told to not eat any large meals 2 days before surgery, and not eat after midnight. I thought it was a little strange too, but everything turned out fine for me so far
The nurse taking care of me said that if you have healthy bowel "stuff" then you more than likely won't need to do bowel prep. If you are constipated or have diahrrea, then you should do the bowel prep. Also, if you have an enlarged liver, the liquid diet/bowel prep will help to reduce it.
Hope that helps.
l don't have to do one for mine. l don't even have to have a liquid diet before. l was just told nothing by mouth after midnight the day before surgery. For me that is kind of nice. My surgery is May 31 so l can try and enjoy my memorial day even if it means taking it easy on what l eat. Also l was told to do away with caffiene 1 week before surgery just so there is no withdrawl headaches. l am glad there isn't a bowel prep l found it hard enough to drink that stuff when l had my colonostomy.
My Doc didn't require a bowel prep, or a liquid diet prior to surgery. I was a little nervous about that, too, but when I spoke to the nurse about it, she told me to eat light, drink plenty of water (my veins are really difficult to "get" otherwise), nothing by mouth after midnight, and relax.
It worked out; I'm a week out, and so far, so good.
I guess every surgeon has his/her method, you know?
Take care and have a speedy recovery!
