Lisa I went through the same thing with chicken post op. Just chew it until it is mush and make sure it is very moist with juices or fat free gravy (I use the heinz fat free roasted chicken gravy). I have just in the last month been able to tolerate chicken and my surgery was on 2/2/05. I believe liquids are so much more tolerable post op in the beginning because I can eat soups and I don't get that heavy feeling in my pouch like I do after eating meats. As you get further out you will find out the things that you can or cannot tolerate because in the beginning your pouch area is still healing so something you eat now that makes you sick may not do this in months to come. It will get better I promise . Carol Pryce RNY 2/2/05 373/298/175

I'll have to see if I can find that gravy. Thanks. I usually don't care for it, but I have to do something. I wanna eat more regular foods again. Like I said, I'd love a salad. LOL I have chicken for chicken salads, but I was told no relish or anything in it. BORING! LOL

Hi Lisa, I had surgery the same day as you. Chicken was ok to get down but felt like a brick in my pouch. I mixed it with a little fat free low sodium cream of chicken soup. It helped me alot. Don't get discouraged. I'm learning everybody is different. I went from miserable to wendy's chili. I have had a salad other wise my GI tract wasn't moving to well with out some greens. I had that problem bofore. The only thing I have had any problem with was refried beans the first time around. I got the worst gas, but I was a gasy person before. I agree with you on the protein shakes....they are the worst. Since we had surgery at the same time if you like to email let me know. I could use a buddy. Lisa we're losers! Tammy

You're eating salads? It's not on my list of things I can eat. I know I can have canned veggies and fruits. Eggs are the closest thing to solid that I have been able to stomach, but they're getting old really fast. Tired of them. I had the same problem with cottage cheese last week. Got boring. I'm not used to eating the same 2-3 things over and over. And I miss pasta!! LOL We're spaghetti and lasagna eaters. LOL I went by a Subway last week and wanted one SOOOOOOOOOO badly!! LOL That would be neat to be buddies.

Lisa, I figured veggies(mine doesn't say canned) would include salad. It was from Wendy's (Ceaser). I think I read somewhere here the darker greens were easier than iceberg. You just have to chew, chew, chew. I wished I would have taken pics like you did. I don't remember alot except the words, "when you eat purred you can go home". I was in 53 hours. ready to bust out. I'm a pasta lover too, Hopeing not to be a food lover of any. I wonder why so many others are on just liquids and our doc's aren't? I mean I realize why everyone is on liquids. I wonder why we get soft food. I'll keep you update buddy, Tammy

What was your surgery date? I'm guessing sometime in May. Sounds like you might be moving too fast. What did your nutrition suggest you eat during this time frame? Clementine

My surgery was May 2. I'm allowed chicken, tuna, turkey. Canned veggies and fruits. Whatever of those I can tolerate I can have. Potatoes with butter or gravy. Stuff like that.
