Hello, I have been on here a while and have kept to myself. On April 25th I was told that I would be having my surgury in about 10 weeks and I am really nervious. I wanted the LAP but he decide that due to the diabetes I would be better off with Gastric Bypass. If you want to chat just give me a buzz...C.A.R.E

Congratulations that you will soon be having surgery. When you said that you would be having Gastric Bypass and not a LAP - did you mean you are having an open Gastric bypass or that you are not having a Lap band. Is he planning on doing an open Gastric Bypass? I am having a Laproscopic very, very long RNY a precedure (the very, very long) they do only at Mayo for people with BMI's over 50. Eventhough I have lost almost 40 lbs they still plan to do that procedure on me. God's blessings on you as you make your preparations.

Don't worry. I think most of them take pretty good care of you. I have had to do a lot of patient education. The bariatric coordinator hugs me when she sees me. They get you prepared. Your doc is smart to insist on an RNY--weight loss is faster and more permanent with it, and it kills the diabetes fast, which is the point of my surgery. I have DM II and it is getting really bad. I can tell you, since I started on prep the carbs are out of my body and I haven't had a blood sugar over 124 for 2 days.
