Prep for May 9
Well, I'm in the prep phase now. Just one more week to go!
Saturday I went to Costco and Walmart to buy protein drinks, jello and broth. Also to say goodbye to food. In the evening I went out to dinner with wife and several friends. One friend is one of my wife's best buddies who had the surgery in 1998 and lost 200 lbs. She is full of good advice. She had everybody rolling because she called it my "Last Supper."
Yesterday the hospital called to get me pre-registered. Wednesday I spend half a day with the surgeon and other team members. I don't really feel a lot of anxiety at this point. After two months on and off in the hospital with diabetic foot surgery four years ago, this looks like a piece of, well, if not cake, then SF jello? At least I can walk out of the hospital under my own power (hopefully).
I did some pretty heavy duty yard work on the weekend and have been feeling strong. Yesterday was religious fast day from two meals, wouldn't you know it on my last day of eating. Had a good supper and a nap, and didn't feel like eating anything else the rest of the day. Today on the shakes and clear liquids has been fine so far. I have told the family not to change their meal patterns on my account, but I'm not certain I want to join them at meal time. We'll see how hard it turns out to be.
Need to get some before pictures. Those of you who have pictures on your posts, how did you do it?
Good luck to all you brave souls!
