I was told because of my high BMI, that I would need a filter inserted to prevent blood-clots. Never heard of this mentioned anywhere. I'm scheduled for May 19!! Just wanted some feedback. Thanks!!

I've heard of it for people with clot issues. It is called a Greenfield filter. Better safe than sorry! Best wishes, Kathy (a day after you!)

Thanks Kathy for the info, I'll be thinking of ya while I'm on my mini vaca in the hospital. LOL Good luck with your surgery, let us know how things go when you're out. Best wishes. Tracy

Hi TJ My surgery is on May 9 and yes, I have already had my filter placed. There are several kinds of filters (not just the Greenfield) and the one I got is not a Greenfield. (Mine is removable.) Under sedation, they went in through the right side of my groin with (basically) an oversided needle which inserts the filter. The filter is used for heavier patients and those who have had clots in the past. No procedure is risk-free, but I think the minimal risk is more than offset by the potential benefit (no blood clots going to your lungs). Good luck with your surgery! Joe

Hi Joe, Congrats on your surgery. Let us know how everything went when you get home. I heard that the filter is more painful than the surgery. Is this your opinion, too? How long did it take? Were you in alot of pain the same day or walking like normal? I get mine put in on May 17 and surgery on May 19th. I hope you up and around in no time. Good luck and thanks for the info. Tracy
