weight loss
Yeah I jus tread you profile. Its pretty hard waiting huh? Were you required to lose wieght also? My friend had it done almost 4 years ago and she never had to go thru any of this! And I use to work at a Dr's office here in Glendale and I had pt's that never had to go thru any time o wieght loss befor surgery. Whats up with that.
Loosing weight before surgery wasn't a requirement for my surgeon, but he suggested it. I believe that I've come down about 13 pounds, according to my home scale, but according to my PCPs office it's only been about 6-8 pounds. I like to believe my home scale.
Anyway back on topic, they want you to loose weight prior to surgery because it makes it easier to operate. The surgeon has to move your liver to the side to get to your stomach, so when you loose a like 10+lbs your liver shrinks. They say that this weight change can really make a difference. I've never heard of a surgery being postponed because someone didn't loose the weight, but I would place a call into your docs office to check. I'm going to post something in another forum about whether people have been postponed for not loosing weight. I'll let you know if I get any good info back.

Hey Rose, I posted this in the Black American Forum and got a lot of feedback. Here goes the link to the post: http://obesityhelp.com/morbidobesity/member-interests/black_american/postdetail/170887.html?vc=0
I hope this helps.
