Iron Infusion and female "stuff"

I went to my GYNO yesterday (who is herself a WLS grad of five years). She had ran a ton of bloodwork on me and discovered that I am again anemic only this time, as a WLS patient herself, she is going to have me do some iron infusions (first one tomorrow morning). I will have to go 3 times a week for 2 weeks. I was actually relieved because I thought at first that I was actually going into premature menopause. She's also going to do a small surgical procedure on the 29th called an endometrial ablation that will hopefully help with my cycles (which is a contributing factor to my anemia problem). Anyone else had iron infusions or endometrial ablation? Heather

Heather - I had an iron infusion back in November 06. I was very anemic. The bottom line is that I just don't absorb iron from supplements. I just went back for another check this week and I'm the lowest number in the normal range, so basically in a couple more weeks i'll be anemic again!! DRATS there's an iron infusion in my future!!! Best of wishes for you!!! laurie

Hi Heather, I had an endometrial ablation 3/04, later had a hysterectomy after my WLS, but the ablation was a wonderful thing. I think I had 2 cycles the two months following the ablation. After that, I never had another one -- yippee! I wish you much luck with it! Also good luck with fighting the anemia. I'm hoping the iron infusions work for that too. Sounds like you've got a good doctor on your side. Take care, Wanda

Hello Heather, About 1 month ago I had my bloodwork done, (I had it done 3 months previous) and my results were dramatically different. I showed major changes - in iron. I am now anemic, my vitamin D dropped considerably to. I was also having female troubles - way to many periods in a month (more period than not). In addition to my daily vitamin regimen, my Dr. put me on iron pills, twice daily, and vitamin d once a day. She put me on a progesterone pill for ten days to stop the period. I had an endometrial biopsy done, and luckily the results came back normal. My period stopped while I was on the pill, but as soon as the ten days was over, I got another period. I am currently waiting to see if this will be a normal one, if not, will be back at the doctor's office. I too, thought maybe it was early premature menopause. I am 42.
