Surgeon ???
Well, I might have found a surgeon for my revision/takedown. Unfortunately it looks like it's come to that for me. I'm back to having problems eatting. This past week I've lost 6 pounds. (and I dont' WANT to lose any)
Anyway, I've had a phone consultation with Dr. elliot Goodman in New York. He gave me three different options for getting me back to good health. Which one will depend on what tests the run and what I decide.
I'm trying to do a little research on him, but not sure where to look. He is listed on OH site and I've read that stuff. What else do you do to check out a surgeon?????

Hey Laurie ~
Find out what medical board governs his license and call them to find out more about his background, complaints, sanctions, etc. It should all be public information. Also, contact that county courthouse and have them search for civil and criminal records. Doctors usually have lawsuits against them, especially civil ones, but I would be interested in criminal ones as well. This should also be public information, but the courthouse might have a fee to search records. You would have to request a copy of the docket or entire file to learn more about the alleged incidents, or you could go to the courthouse and review the file in person. Just talk to the court clerk and they can tell you how they offer their records to the public.
Law suits are often times inflated, but you should be able to get an idea if you comfortable with your surgeon based on the number and kind of suits against him. I own a private investigation firm, so if you need help identifying the courts, counties, etc., email me privately at [email protected].
There is a lot of information out there that is public, you just have to know where to find it and have the time to go after it. Go to the medical board first to see if they can give you a date of birth or a middle name or something. That way, when you find multiple cases with a name like Elliot Goodman, you can sort them out to what belongs to your surgeon and what ones do not. It's hard to say how common that name is.
Good luck to you, and I strongly recommend doing as much research as possible with any endeavor. If you feel you are making an informed decision, you will be much more comfortable with your decision in the long run.

Laurie,
Since you are thinking of traveling for the revision... I'd try Dr. Neil Hutcher. He is in Richmond, VA, I believe. He was the head of the ASBS (American Society of Bariatric Surgeons****il recently when his term expired. I would bet he takes the more difficult cases. Tinkerbelle aka Natalie had her surgery with him among others. He is well known and trusted.
Just a thought,
Kathy
