Every day I try to come on here and post my food choices/menu. A discipline I personally need for accountability.
It has occurred to me lately that all of us are really re-training ourselves to make wonderfully wiser choices with food.
Not to say that we don't blow it sometimes but over-all there really seems to be a healthy curve going on.
Just wanted to note that publicly and to give us a chance to all take a bow !!!
We even are all beginning to see " cause and effect" patterns of what happens when we eat this or that.
I was thinking how much contrast there is between NOW and back THEN !
Pre-wls I don't think I was as much of a conscious eater . Now, I was conscious when I was in full rebellion and dead set on eating what I wanted.
But there was also a mindless sort of eating I remember that isn't as much a part of my life anymore...except sometimes. But it is not the usual pattern anymore.
I'm feeling grateful.
So what do you think????
How are you discovering yourself changing for the better with your food choices???
Let's hear your thoughts, Ok?
Mary
Mary,
I definitely understand what you are saying.
I'm still actively learning what foods my body likes, what it tolerates, what it doesn't like and what it is completely intolerant of. My body often reacts to an individual item drastically so I have to do lots of monitoring. I do not keep a food journal on paper or on the computer other than to post here and onto the WLS Grads board. I do so more days than not.
Posting what I'm eating or planning to eat keeps me very accountable. I do need that. Gives me more of a sense of control.
I think as each day goes by it is easier and easier to eat healthier. I think having seen dramatic jumps in weight when eating a cert
And I'm managing to maintain my weight which I'm most happy with.
I am not tempted to step outside my food boundaries at this point. I can still get in trouble by simply overeating what is within my boundaries and I really have to watch that. For example, I keep reminding myself - cheese is excellent and my fav but it is about 100 cals a slice and it adds up very, very quickly. I don't count calories per se but I try to be conscious of what goes into things and the quantity I've eated for the day.

Absolutely,
I can tell you the caloric/fat/protein/carb count of almost virtually evrything i put in my mouth, thats not to say that occasionally I dont still put it in my mouth if its high, but the important part is that I DONT more often than I do. Even going out to eat, I used to stay eating a bacon double cheeseburger with cheese fries with a large cokeon our late nite diner runs, now its an egg, a turkey sausage and water.
Mary,
I have been on a healthy eating kick since I had breast cancer. I really wanted to try and prevent a recurrence and started really focusing on fiber content of foods and nutrition. I wasn't losing weight as I still ate too much. You can still be fat eating too much of even good foods. It was one reason I was ready for this surgery. The eating was not a big change for me, only the amounts. Weigh****chers is easy for me too...the losing weight part hasn't been, but, following the diet, recording my eating and making sure I'm getting in all the good stuff is easy...now if I could just lose some more weight!
I'm so happy I eat healthy. I started viewing food as medicine or at least an integral part of a wellness program. I wish I had always been like this!
Big hugs to you!
