A Recipe For You
Been missing for a while. I've joined the "knitting lifestyle": blogging about it, knitting in groups, knitting in public, etc. I find that it helps keep me from eating too much inappropriately. For those of you interested or bored , my blog (including pictures of yours truly) can be found at: http://lilymidnite.blogspot.com
Anyway, I love chai, especially the unsweetened mix from Trader Joe's, to which I add an envelope of Splenda. Unfortunately, the closest Trader Joe's is 8 hours away, so I Googled and found a recipe I could fiddle with. Duly fiddled, here it is. I estimate it has 35 calories per serving. It has some carbs, but of the lactose type. So, be aware of your own limitations with that.
Chai Tea Mix

INGREDIENTS:
* 1 cup instant nonfat dry milk powder
* 1 cup powdered non-dairy creamer
* 1 cup Sugar Free French vanilla flavored powdered non-dairy creamer
* 2 - 2 1/2 cups granular Splenda (the one that "measures like sugar")
* 1 1/2 cups unsweetened instant tea
* 2 teaspoons ground ginger
* 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
* 1 teaspoon ground cloves
* 1 teaspoon ground cardamom
* 1/4 teaspoon ground white pepper (optional)
* 1/2 teaspoon ground allspice (optional)
DIRECTIONS:
1. In a large bowl, combine milk powder, non-dairy creamer, vanilla flavored creamer, Splenda, and instant tea.
Stir in ginger, cinnamon, cloves and cardamom. Blend.
2. To serve: Stir 2 heaping tablespoons Chai tea mixture into a mug of ho****er.
NOTES:
* CoffeeMate is the only brand I've found that makes a sugar free French Vanilla creamer.
* If you use fat free powdered non-dairy creamer, it would lower the calories.
* If you find the mixture too gritty, you can blend in blender or food processor, 1 cup at a time,
until mixture is the consistency of fine powder.
I found that by using Splenda grittiness is not a problem, and it dissolves very well in the ho****er.
* Store in an air-tight container.
Here's an even easier option. Try Oregon Chai's Sugar-Free Chai Tea Latte. No calories, no carbs! You can find local retailers at www.worldpantry.com/cgi-bin/ncommerce3/ExecMacro/oregonchai/main.d2w/report.
Take care,
