Well just a little update . I have been having these crashes several times a day and trying very hard to record what I eat and when this happens so I can trace the trigger foods. Finally had a consult with my surgeons PA yesterday and she gave me some advice and ordered much tests ( due anyway) and was surprised and pleased about my tracking for the triggers. She called in an Rx for the glucose testing stuff and said I need to test a minimum of 4x a day. I will be following up on the 5th w/ pcp and she also recommended an endrocrinologist to consult.
Seems the white flour products are the worst culprits but still a little baffled by the crashes and my pcp ( thought he'd already left for vac.) who heard via his nurse about my 'crashes' sent me a message to count all carbs.
Haven't really counted carbs in a long time and feel a little confused but will work on doing my 'homework'.
On a positive note the surgeons PA said that many patients who develope this reactive hypoglycemia seem to overcome it after 2 yrs. out, so it may not be permanent. Thank God.
I go to weigh****chers and have been doing the flex plan but have begun to study the core plan which is alot like the south beach plan. Change is never easy. I don't feel very confident at the moment. But I'm going to do my best.
Sometimes when you feel bad enough you'll do whatever it takes.

I have it, too... And I was able to prove it, after Kathy pointed it out to me... I was eating a bowl of oatmeal for breakfast many mornings and often would add a banana. I was also having blood sugar crashes a few hours later... Even though I hadn't changed my routine in months, all of a sudden, I started crashing. So, I switched back to yogurt or eggs for breakfast and noticed a marked decrease in the amount and severity of crashes...
Two days ago, tired of yogurt, I had some cornflakes and yes, a banana... Around the same time of the morning I always used to get them, I had a small dip. Wouldn't call it a crash, but could definately tell my blood sugar was dropping... Has to be the carbs...
I've found for me that if I stick with good, fiberous carbs, and spread it out throughout the day, I'm okay. And I never have just carbs at a meal, I always make sure to have a good chunk or protein in there to help stabilize my sugar.
Good luck!
Glad you are seeking help on the sugar issues.
I, of course, ditto what Becky had to say. Gotta watch the carbs and never had too many at one sitting or by themselves. And for some folks it also seems like the time of day affects things too. Very weird.
I cannot say that I've read anything about things improving 2 years post-op. Nice if it were fact. Would love to see that in "journal" form.
Luckily I've only had 2 crashes since surgery and were quite a while ago. I have to avoid white carbs otherwise I bloat and gain rapidly. I still eat very low carb and probably need more fiber and variety to my diet. I'm working on it. But after the small-white-flour-in-the-Power-Crunch-bars that caused a 7 lb gain in 2-3 weeks - I'm gunshy on things. LOL!
Great going on WW. I'm all for whatever helps get you to goal, closer to goal, helps to maintain your loss. I really believe that being accountable and having in person support is a great thing. WLS isn't the end-all-be-all. It gets weight off. For some - all of the excess, for others - not quite. But to keep it off or get more off - it is work and it is mostly us not the surgery that is going to truly do that.
Take care!
Kathy
