Good Snack Ideas
OK - I'm in a rut. I'm trying desperately to stay away from chips and cookies and junk but I wander through the store and can't seem to find something "good".
I KNOW that I can't do sugar alchols hardly at all. SF twizzlers just about killed me!!!!
Sooooooo - lets list off some good healthy snack ideas!!!
But please dont say cheese - I'm so sick of cheese it's almost as bad as sf jello to me know!!!

Laurie: Maybe to replace the chips you could try the soy chips. I have had some that were bbq flavored and cheese flavored. I don't recall the nutritional stats on them, but they contained a reasonable amount of protein. For a snack I sometimes take 4oz of fat free cream cheese 1TBS of Splenda and a dollop of lite Cool Whip and mix together. Tastes something like cheese cake. Low in calories and high in protein. No sugar added fudgesicles? Beef jerkey? Sugar free pudding? Dried fruit? I know, not everybody can tolerate it. Maybe check out Dame Tooters Bariatric Bytes. There may be some ideas there.

P.S. Frozen Power Crunch bars! I have had difficulty eating lately, but that actually sounds pretty good to me. I'll have to go get some!
Oh yes, I forgot about soy chips. I tried them months ago and I enjoyed the cedder ones. I'm definately going to try the cream cheese thing - wow I'd love to have something that tastes like cheese cake!!
I can't do beef jerkey and Im sick of sf pudding, but I've never tried dried fruit, can you buy that at like WalMart?

Here are a couple of staples in our house that seem to work out great for snacks:
Soy crisps -- I bag them into individual servings so I don't eat the whole bag at once.
Soy nuts -- good crunchy item
Archer Farms Fruit Strips -- You can find them at Target. They are organic and basically a piece of fruit leather. It's only fruit, so no added sugar (hope you can handle the natural sugar). There are only 45 calories per strip, and I am loving them right now.
Tea -- I know you are probably trying to find snacks to increase your calories, but I love to drink hot tea w/splenda and a bit of SF Vanilla Coffeemate. Trader Joes has a great chocolate tea and a chai tea (just tea bags -- none of the extra stuff).
Baby Carrots -- ok not that exciting, but when they are extra sweet, they are good.
Edemame -- love it!
Hope this helps some. I know it's hard not to find carb laden snacks -- especially when that's what your taste buds want.

Edemame is awesome. You can buy them frozen in the health food section or the frozen veggie section of the store - they're soy beans in the pod. You can thaw and eat them raw or boil them in some sal****er. They're very nutty and because they're in the pod, you have to kind of work at getting to them, not as easy to just grab handfuls...
Some of my favorite snacks are green peppers sliced thin with light cream cheese, celery with chopped up green olives mixed in cream cheese, cukes with red wine vinegar, and soy crisps. Other times I'll have ham or turkey rolled up with some cream cheese, a low carb tortilla with shredded 2% cheddar (like a quesadilla), or a handful of almonds. Another good one is low fat yogurt (light n fit) with a cut up fruit and some sort of cereal mixed in (the high fiber All Bran is great cuz it gives you lots of fiber in it, too).

Oh ham roll up sounds really good. (Oh I wish the grocery store wasn't 30 miles away right now) hahaha
I just recently tried a chicken quesadilla (no sauce) at AppleBee's wow was that good. It's just enough bread for me. I never thought about making my own at home as a snack though. I could just pop some in under the broiler for a bit.
