Pouch spasms?
Have you ever over- eaten or ate bread/pasta and the next day have a spasm like pain under your left breast bone area? It hurts sometimes when I inhale deeply. And usually goes away in a day or 2. I am wondering if anyone else has experienced this. I am not sure if it is from over eating or not or if it's not even pouch related.
At first I thought it was gas trapped but I am not bloated or gas-y. I am not looking for medical advice. I just want to know if this is normal or not when I mis-behave.

Hi Kim, I haven't experienced this since wls but before when I had severe reflux I had something like it quite often. Mine was gastritis which simply meant (for me) irritation and some inflammation of the gastric tissues, primarily from the acid. It caused alot of pain. It makes sense that the overeating may trigger the pain and spasms. Which means the "pouchie" is doing it's job of trying to re-train us with portions. Hope you feel better soon. It's always a good idea to ask the doc if it persists, tho. Maybe you'll get some feedback from the ladies here that may help with the mystery.
It is good to have you post.

If I eat something that is too big a piece or too dry or not well chewed enough... I immediately feel pain right under my breastbone dead center.
I was hopsitalized with chest pains (mostly on the left side) a couple of months ago. Through testing and process of elimination... I pretty much guess they were esophagael spasms triggered by swallowing some of my vitamins. They triggered the discomfort which would last a while and would get retriggered even by food. I adjusted the vitamins... switching pills to capsules, cut pills into quarters and take my capsules with hot tea and the problem seems to have gone away.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have noticed that when I am talking alot while eating that I don't focus on chewing my food to death before swallowing. I do need to get back to the basics. I have lost slightly more than 180# in my 15 month journey to a healthier me. I have been reading posts but haven't written very many since having the surgery. I have found that since I am more active I don't spend very much time on the internet any more. I used to live here. LOL
I am sorry I haven't updated my profile. I need to post a new pic of me too.
You all are great!
