The needle on the scale????

Good Morning to all Maysters, I was pondering how much power I/we give to the numbers the needle points to on the scale??? * Just this am I decided to name the needle on my scale BOB cuz it sure enjoys bobbing around and creating an interesting level of anxiety, fear and uncertainty as well as some days joy and pure delight ( tho fewer of those days ) ...earlier on in the post op journey I'll admit... it even struck terror in me some days that - I would be a weight loss surgery 'failure'. Care to share: 1. How the needle/numbers on the scale affects You and your mood ??? 2. How often do you weigh now?

My scale doesn't have a needle so no BOBing around. I do however vary my foot position including having my toes hang off the front edge or sides of feet off the sides to get better readings. I'm one ill lady, I tell ya. My scale is digital. We have a stupid commerical here for Cox Cable featuring a cartoon guy called Digital Max. So I'll name our scale Max. Sometimes, I'd like to take Max OUT. Honestly, the numbers on the scale rarely affect my mood anymore. I have weighed myself multiple times daily for going on years. I am so used to the unexplained changes in values that I pretty good about not be affected by it anymore. My day is not shot if I see a 2 lb upswing. And I can tell you that I can fluctuate a few pounds up on any given day. Usually I do NOT see a few pounds down on any one day (except for immediately post-op). I weight myself far too often. I am a somewhat scale-o-holic, as proven by: 1. I weight in the morning after going potty and stripping down to nothing. I may get on and off more than once (again, toe and foot position variations apply here). If I end up having a BM shortly thereafter (once in a blue moon), I of course have to weigh myself again because we all know that a BM can make a big difference on the scale. 2. More times than not, I weigh myself on the balance beam scale at the gym. I don't always do it and usually do not do it multiple times in one gym visit. Usually do it nekkid though. 3. After I get the dog walked and settle in at home, I'll go potty (important ya know) and strip down to get into comfy clothing and will weigh myself again. This usually gives me a weight that is usually 2 lbs up from what I'll weight the next morning so it gives me a clue of loss or gain. Weird, eh? I will also weigh again usually the body fat percentage button to see where that is registering. 4. Rarely, I may weight myself before bed yet again. Kathy (obviously having a fling of ill sorts with Max)

I actually don't own a scale....I know shocker huh! My mom won't let me buy one. Everytime we go to Walmart I check them out and she says you don't need that and keeps on walking. So the only time I get to weigh is at the doctors office. I weighed yesterday when I went to the lung docs office and I had lost 8lbs since I'd seen my pcp a couple of weeks ago. So I was happy. At least its seems I'm on the losing side again. When I see my pcp he always weighs me and when they had to push the little thingy up a notch I almost cried and told his nurse Paula I don't like your scale as if the scale had a choice. She said remember its the afternoon and you probably haven't drank all your water for the day. I like Paula. She gave me some pointers as to how to get the scale to move downward again....like drink your water, exercise and all that. Well it must have worked. So I don't stress to much every day because of the scale but only when I have to go see Dr. B. Jan

Hi Jan, Congratulations on the 8 lb. weight loss. It is a boost and after that last dr. visit when the doc was a bit snippy with you about the weight, it must have especially felt great !!! Mary

1. I, like Kathy, am so used to the fluctuating scale on a day to day basis that the scales don't bother me too much anymore. I see a pound or two increase in any given day. I just keep an eye on the over all picture. I'm at 130 so it's OK for me to get to 132ish, now if it said 135 I'd be FREAKING out!!!!!! Because they've told me to eat the higher fat things, I'm deathly afraid that one day my body is going to adjust and I'm going to gain some major weight back. (this FEAR thing is POWERFUL)!!!! 2. I usually weigh every morning, after potty, in my jammies. This week I had to take a LONG trip to Wisconsin. It was a 11 hour drive there (had to skirt around Chicago too, NOT fun!!) and then another 11 hours home!!! It was HORRIBLE! I didn't have time to plan my meals at all. I literally just ran through Meijers looking for food to grab and go. Unfortunately, I bought some pringles. Oh man, somehow, over the course of the three days I was gone I ate the whole can!!!! OMGH - I couldn't believe it!!!! I really expected to see a 3 - 5 pound gain this morning.... but the scales were pretty good to me and it was only my usual 2 pound flux!!! WHEW!!!!!!!!!!! NO MORE PRINGLES FOR THIS GIRL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Laurie

Hello... I do not weigh everyday...perhaps 3 or 4 times a week only first thing in the am. My lowest scale reading has been 146 but from day t day it varies from 146-148 in general. If I happen to see 150 I feel depressed for the entire day... it is such a head game and I know I shouldn't let it affect me like that but I guess deep down inside I feel like this might be the time I actually gain weight.... so far if that happens the next day when I weigh it is usally 147 or something. It truly is a head game.

I have one of those stupid digital scales too. I still weight everyday. For me it just keeps me on track. I fluctuate anywhere from 130 to sometimes 135. I've been in Jazzercise for not quite a month now and I'm really amazed with the changes I"m seeing. My inner thighs are firming up with all the dancing and my husband is impressed with the muscles/toning on my arms. Although I'm getting the aerobic activity 4-5 times a week it hasn't had much effect on my scale. I'm guessing I"m building lots of muscle so I'm trying to ignore the scale for now. ana
