Move to Lose/Maintain Report - Check-In for Monday
Who moved to lose/maintain today or this weekend?
I had a doctor's appointment this morning so I opted out of the gym today. I did go yesterday and was there for a good 1.5-2 hours or so. I did all my weight machines - upper and lower body, my abs and I did 1 hour of cardio. That was one rough hour. I was following the work-out from the trainer based on my heart rate. I felt like I did nothing and I mean nothing. I have to work at such a low heart rate. I ended up walking 2.09 miles in one hour. Ewwww. It sucked. But it is for the great good. I have to keep telling myself that. I need to get my fat burning up into high heart rate ranges and supposedly this will help.
I don't know if most of you read the hoopla on the mainboard about an exercise video (DVD) called Chicometrics. (Web site is the same name.) Heard it is tough but supposed to trim inches. Some rave about it. I mail ordered a copy and am waiting on it. Hope I get it soon. Check was mailed last week. I'll keep you posted. Just took measurements so I have something to compare to.
So what have you been up to?
Kathy
You betcha I moved! A few months ago, a fellow WLS buddy challenged us to some relay races and marathons. Some of us started training together and it was all I could do to walk 3 miles at one time. Yesterday, I'm proud to say, that I did my first half-marathon, or actually slightly more than a half. I was visiting my cousin in Portland and I walked/jogged 13.5 miles and it was in an area that has rolling hills. (Not bad for an old 50 year old woman!) My buddies and I are getting in at least 30 miles a week with Saturday devoted to our longer walks/jogs. One of the other gals and I were saying just the other day that on a day we walk 6 or 7 miles we refer to it as a low walking day. We are training to participate in a full marathon next year which is 26.2 miles. I'd like to say just once that I was in a marathon.
I hope we are all doing some form of exercise, it's so important! I'm not a big fan of it but I do enjoy the benefits of being able to do things (except today, I'm walking like a little old lady, lol).
I've followed your journey and you are doing great. Keep it up!
Hey there ~
My last workout with my trainer was on Friday . She going to be a fire fighter. So I am starting with a new trainer in a couple weeks. On Saturday, I did 40 minutes of cardio -- burned 500 calories and some ab work. On Sunday, I did the Chicometrics DVD for the first time. It was good. My abs and lower back are sore, which means I'm hitting some muscles that I haven't hit very hard before. I enjoyed the workout. The video is a little "home grown", but good. I think that once I know the routine, I'll have to really concentrate on keeping myself in the moment and not go on autopilot.
Speaking of sore lower back, I'm not sure if it's muscles that are sore, or if my kidneys are aching. It's in the right spot for my kidneys (I think), and they ached all day. By the end of the day, I just came home and curled up on the couch instead of going to the gym. Anyone had problems like this? I don't think I'm dehydrated. I hope it's just muscle soreness, but it seems too "internal" to be muscle. I guess time will tell.
If anyone has any thoughts/remedies, please let me know. I don't want to have an excuse to not go to the gym!

Last Thursday I finally joined Jazzercise! Took me long enough and I kept finding excuses and time problems. No excuses this time. After the first class I was so sore for several days. I forgot how much dance works out your body. I'm having fun and exercising so I'm happy! I'm looking to tone this body and see some good results.
That's what I'm up to. We're leaving town for the rest of the week so I won't be around much.

I am so envious of all of you! My physical therapist has told me no running/walking/biking/elliptical, etc. at least until my TT on the 8th and then of course I'll have the recovery of the tt. That means no cardio until at least mid-October timeframe. I hate it. I actually did a little running (like a few hundred feet) the other day and did hurt pretty bad in my back and stuff afterwards. I'm really tired of not being able to do anything. I feel like such a slug most of the time and I keep thinking, "MAN, if I could just do SOMETHING!" but nope. She told me I could walk at a slow pace but not anything that could jar my back in anyway. Like, maybe 2.5 but no more than 2.8 on the treadmill. Sigh...I was walking at 3.5-3.7 before. My goal was to run a 5K by my 1 year but obviously this didn't happen. Oh, well...there is a reason.

Michelle,
If it is any consolation... my back won't allow me to run, jog, walk really fast, elliptical, cybex, stepper, etc. I can walk slow on the treadmill and do the regular cycle. Recumbant bothers the back too.
Plus my new heart rate program... which is boring... has me training in low heart rates to get my fat burning up. My walking speed on the treadmill to keep my heart range where it is supposed to be puts me at various inclines but speeds from 1.8 to maybe 3.0. BORING.
Hopefully your back will improve and that 5K will be in the future. I don't think mine is going to allow it and I'm trying to deal with that. I loved to run.
