Just how long?? (Iron question)

I know that we're not supposed to take calcium and iron together, but my question is how long are we supposed to wait before we take the iron after the calcium? And is it strictly calcium SUPPLEMENTS or ANY calcium (like with a piece of cheese or any dairy) that we're not supposed to take it in conjunction with? Any ideas?? Michelle

I was told to wait an hour and a half between iron and calcium supplements. I'm not sure if that it just for supplements or if it's foods too. I take mine around my food, but I've never stopped to think if there was calcium in the foods I was eatting when I take my iron (did that make any sense??) Laurie

I usually wait a minimum of 2 hours. I think that is what I was told. I think, in general, the longer the better. I haven't been worrying about food and iron. Guess I should give that some thought and not have my iron around the time I have cheese. Kathy

My nutritionist said about 2 hours in between, and it's ok to take iron with food, so long as there isn't calcium in the food. So, I guess it does matter what food you are eating around the iron supplements. Angie
