Never Met My 1 Year Goal......

My early on goal had been to run a 5K.... Well that never happened. I guess I could do it if I had too...but I just don't like to run! I can walk forever and I teach Water Fitness (Aerobics) 2 x a week but no running! Today I tried again but just found it really isn't for me. There is a new running club starting in my area and I have thought about it but I believe it just really isnt in my cards to RUN! Have any of you set a goal that you just really don't/can't/shouldn't/won't reach????

That was my 1-year goal, too!! I've had such terrible back issues, though that I am under Doc's orders not to run (or do any fast walking, elliptical, stair climbing, bike riding, etc. either - basically NO cardio as it's too rough for my back). However, once I get the okay I will be running. I've tried it a few times and really enjoy it. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine that I'd be upset that my doc told me not to exercise. I am constantly bugging my physical therapist about "WHEN WHEN WHEN!" and she just keeps telling me, "Be patient, Michelle - don't overdo it!" I did something stupid yesterday, though. My family and I went on a hike which ended up being around 4 miles and some of it was basically straight uphill. Let me just tell you that I now know WHY my doc has said nothing that includes too much back/hip movement!! I am in incredible pain today. Michelle

Hope you feel better soon Michelle. Take it easy for a few days to ease that back. Mary

Hi Jen, I had also hoped I'd be able to run. My back still is an issue for me and any type of jarring can set it off. I even do the deep water exercises rather than the shallow because of the jarring causing aggrivation to the back. I still have a way to go to get to goal and then will maybe see an orthopaedic doc about advisability of surgery to correct the multi-disc issues. I admire that you are walking alot and teaching the water fitness classes. We have a 'really for real teacher' among us Proud of ya ! Do what you enjoy is my thought. I never thought I'd enjoy digging in the garden for hours and planting roses in the sun but it turns out that I have a passion for creating beauty in my garden and now that I am more physically able I just go for it as much as the ol' back allows. I suspect that now that we are becoming free physically to try many things we were previously unable to do ...we will all discover many delightful activities we never even gave ourselves permission to dream of. Hugs, Mary

Jen, I was hoping to be under 200 lbs by my 1 year. I'm at 237 right now. I was even up 1.5 lbs from 235.5 this morning!!!! ARRRGH! This is still a 147 lb loss, but, gosh dangit, am I going to make it to 199??? I just don't know. I work out every day for about 90 minutes. But, I don't always eat like I should so I know it is my own fault. I'm just feeling crabby today since the scale was up and I only allow myself a once a week weigh in. Lori

Hugs Lori, the BIG picture Lori , the BIG picture Lori... IS that -147lbs is astounding!!!!!!!!! I know when the scale bobs upward it it very anxiety producing...Hang in there, that vacation weight shifting will settle down soon and you'll be dropping those lbs. I'm not near my goal either but plugging away day by day. We're gonna make it! Even we turtles have dignity. Yes! Mary

I know that running is not for me. Feels like punishment. But the other day I took my dog for a walk and he decided to take me for a run. It felt great!!!!!! But I wouldn't want to do it everyday. Andrea
