EGD Friday
So much for my trip to Busch Gardens... LOL! Rich and I had hoped to go but honestly I wasn't really feeling up to it. I'd much rather be scoped, ya know? LOL!
Not sure how this affects my trip to Richmond. Rich and I were hooking up with a bunch from the VA OH forum for the weekend. Hopefully I'll still feel like going.
Hopefully with this we'll figure out what is going on with me and then figure out the plan to fix it...
off to chew a couple of Tums...
Kathy
Kathy,
My doc put me on nexium today, hoping and praying I get relief from the burning and the night time reflux, yuck, the worst!
Maybe something prescription strength instead of tums are in order for you...? Please ask ok?
I'm going to see my PCP tomorrow, he is going to refer me to a gastro guy locally.. yeah, I won't have to go to Atlanta for my EGD!
hmmm, Busch Gardens... EGD... Busch Gardens... EGD... I can see the hard decision you had to make...
They are gonna figure it out this time.. I just know it.. you are truly a marvel of modern medicine... and to think.. I knew you when...
In all seriousness babe, I am wishing you the very best, and praying that they really do get it figured out! Did you ever in all your wildest dreams think you would still be having issues this far out? I didn't, thats for sure.
B
Believe me... I'm now ODing on calcium now. LOL! Got me some calcium citrate and some calcium carbonate (Tums). Hopefully just for another day or so before I get some type of answer.
Cool that you won't have to go to Atlanta! Great. It's about freakin' time! Can I shout that? IT'S ABOUT FREAKIN' TIME!
I never thought I'd have issues. LOL! Hubby has had none. Why would I have 'em?
... cuz I'm MEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.........
I'm still thinking bout Busch Gardens...
Love ya, K
What type of surgery did the two of you have? My surgeon said that the reason he did the RNY on me was because I had acid reflux and with the RNY there is no acid in the stomach so one of the 1st signs that I may have a staple line disruption would be a return of the acid reflux. I still do have reflux - but it is only my food that comes up with a spasm, especially if I eat too fast. There is no acid involved, though. I'm just curious - could you possibly have a staple line disruption??
Michelle
I don't have a staple line to disrupt. I had lap RNY and my remnant stomach is transsected from the pouch.
Even with RNY... we have some acid producing cells in the stomach. We don't have alot because the pouch is made from the top of the original stomach where there aren't alot.
Not sure why I'm getting acid up into the esophagus but I'm tasting it. Ick.

Hi, My surgeon also believes there isn't enough acid produced in the pouch to create any problems BUT I had the RNY and also had a hiatel hernia repaired at the same time and still had awful burning acid {while } in the hospital post surgically. They had to give me my stomach meds via IV"s. I had acid issues for the first couple of weeks and then it calmed down BUT still do have acid issues and it is most troubling if I foolishly eat before bed...then the reflux burns the esophagus all nt. and in the am I have painful spasms in the esophagus from the acid. My best friend's nephew ( who had his surgery just 2 wks before mine) died of a bleeding ulcer only 4 wks post-op his RNY leaving a wife and 3 very young children. His surgeon also did not believe the pouch could produce enough acid to be a problem. He repeatedly called the surgeon and complained of pain but was told to take tylenol for the pain instead of being examined AND scoped. If you remember our own Mayster Kat T who hasn't posted in forever became seriously ill and it was discovered she had bleeding ulcers almost eaten right thru the pouch. Much pain and throwing up and hardly able to eat more than a nibble at all. So acid may be { usually} a very minor problem for most but for some... it may be we have 'extra' acid forming cells even in the pouch . Also I suspect some of us have more spasms in the pouch and esophagus which propel the acid up to reflux and burn. Mary
