OT: Part-time job advice
I have been thinking about getting a second job.
I don't think I can do retail again after my Kohl's experience (I hated it!) unless it was a smaller store like an LB or Gap or something like that.
What about a restaurant? Do you think I could make more at like Applebee's being a waitress? I know it would kill my weekends, but if I am ever going to get serious about saving up some money for plastics then I need more of an income.
So now I have to decide - retail or restaurant - ADVICE?
I've never worked restaurant but in my college days I did work at a jewelry store and then later I worked at a grocery store. I loved both. The jewelry store was non-commission so that helped but we did have bonuses if you did sell x amount. The grocery story (I was a cashier) was actually really fun! I worked there a year and loved it. Hours were extremely flexible and time went by quickly because I was so busy!
That's my 2 little cents worth. I know people who loved serving at restaurants and some who hated it. I think it goes all with how well you like people and how 'fake' you can be, lol. My niece is the superfake queen and works her butt off at a restaurant but man she gets some awesome tips. She really goes out of her way though and is just one of those likeable people.
Good luck to finding your extra job!
melissa,
I work as a registered nurse now but in my younger days I worked as a waitress and as a bartender. I loved the work and the money was very good. But because you are paid in tips everyday you have to be pretty focused if you are saving for something special because it is easy to spend your extra $ daily.
