FREE / Recycling out grown clothes and gleaning newer size clothes

I recently came across a website where local folk can post what they have to GIVE away or NEED. Everything is to be exchanged on a totally FREE basis. Never a charge or fee. It is a grass roots effort to keep stuff from being carted off to the dump and shared with those who can use it. Sort of " One mans trash is another man's treasure" principle. You post your need or someone posts their offer and you simply email the poster if you are interested ( so you don't have to ever put your personal info out there) just reply to the responder directly w/ pick up directions etc. We all have lost huge amounts of weight and may have bags of clothes we've outgrown and many of us could use things in smaller sizes as we inch toward goal and work our way thru the shrinking process. What do you think about sharing the info of what we have to GIVE away and what we may NEED ? I think this could be a Godsend to us and to the newbies to wls who will be losing at rapid speed and as you recall last yr. racing thru sizes in clothes. If you are interested go to freecycle.com and put in your zipcode. You will be directed to the nearest freecycle group. If you live near 2 counties or cities, or more it's even better to register with as many within whatever mile range you would be willing to travel. In just the 3 wks. I have signed on I have seen a treadmill given away, tons of size 20-22 womens clothes, washers, dryers, bikes, household items like dishes and pots and pans and decorating items, computers, CD's, Videos, baby clothes, toddler clothes, diapers still in packages, beds, strollers, Childrens toys and tents and tunnels and bubble thingies (like at McDonalds) for kids to jump in, playpens, power tools and even lawn tractors etc, etc.. And of special interest to me - perennial plants. If I sound excited it's cuz I AM ! I think this could be a wonderful resource for us wls gals and guys to save $$$$ as we proceed to smaller sizes. And Hey to save $ and not have to BUY lots of everyday stuff we need or want is cool. See what you think, Hope it is a help. Mary

Freecycle is the coolest thing. I have friends that have received many fabulous things especially for their kids. My friend's son LOVES his typewriter. Yup, an old fashioned one. Rich and I used freecycle to dispose of a nice sofa that his folks had but it was too low for them to sit on and get out of. We needed to get rid of it very quickly since a chair was ordered and due to arrive very soon to replace it (big mistake on his mom's part but I digress...) Within 5 minutes of posting the availability of the sofa, I had 2 folks that wanted it. The guy and his son came right on time a day later with a dolley and a van and got it. Got a nice email from his wife a few days later thanking us for it. She said it looked great in their family room. Anyway, all that said... freecycle is a great thing! Kathy

Wasn't that great to see the sofa move into the hands of someone who needed it asap. Plus the blessing of their gratitude. Sort of makes the heart glad, huh? We had a load of true junk to take to the dump yesterday and it grieved me to see so many good items crushed by the super duper sized bulldozers when it would be so nice to see them shared instead of shredded. I love Freecycle, too. I use it all the time and am always giving away stuff. My clothes I usually recycle through my WLS support group, but I give away other things. Michelle
