Metabolic Testing Scheduled
Hey, Lori and da gang...
Rich and I scheduled our metabolic testing for Saturday June 17th at 7 am sharp. Have to fast 8 hours before so first thing in the a.m. is best for me so I can go first and be sipping on my protein shake while Rich does his testing.
We'll end up finding out at what heart rate we burn fat versus not-fat and we'll find out our metabolic rate.
Hope this information can help both of us to get our body fat percentages in better places. I'm not thinking of this from a scale perspective but more of getting in a good body fat range and finding out how many calories my body is needing these days.
I'm really curious about this stuff. I'll be glad to share any information we get with my buds.
Kathy
Well, my ever learning and lovely friend...
No, this isn't in water. I know that you get on a bike or treadmill and exercise with monitors on and some type of mask that monitors metabolic rate through your breath or something like that.
I know people do measure body fat in water. I just use my Tanita scale which tells me body fat percentage but wow does that vary by time of day/hydration level. The best number I get it at night after work when I'm probably the best hydrated I am all day long. Right now, as of a few minutes ago, I'm 28% body fat but that can be as high as in the low 30s if I'm more dehydrated like first thing in the a.m. Me? I always choose the lowest number.
For women, I believe 25-31% is considered "acceptable". How grand - I'm acceptable most of the time anyway unless its morning and I'm dehydrated then I'm back to obese. Happy, happy, joy, joy. Fitness level for women for body fat is 21-24%. That's my ultimate goal. Beyond that...there is the "athlete" level. Not going to even think about that one. No way, no how.
Based on this website:
http://www.linear-software.com/online.html
My body fat is 31.33%.
And based on this website:
http://www.healthcentral.com/cooltools/nutrition/homebodyfattest.aspx
My body fat is 25%.
So, I guess I'm somewhere in there.

Kathy,
I was supposed to do my BMR testing today. I met with my surgeon for my 1 year anniversary appointment. She had no idea I was scheduled for the BMR and because no one gave me the instructions of how to get ready for it (the fasting and no exercise and no caffeine) I had to reschedule for Friday, June 2.... I was only told to fast for 4 hours??? My test isn't until 11:45 am, so I was thinking I'd be fine to have some breakfast at 6 am when I get back from the gym. I am not supposed to exercise within 4 hours either.
I'm really curious too! Even though I've been kinda down about my weight loss, my surgeon says I'm exactly where she wants me to be! She said that she thinks it may take me another 8 to 9 months to lose the 40 lbs I need to break 200. Patience is a virtue!
Yes, this will be interesting. We will have to share results!
Lori
I would think that fasting from 6 to almost noon would be plenty. And just don't exercise that morning.
By my quick math... you are probably down somewhere between 75-80% of your excess weight and I know my surgeon's goal is for patients to lose 70% in the first year. So by his standards, you are ahead of schedule.
Yes, patience is a virtue.
Hey, I still haven't met my goal yet either and I still think it is a reasonable one for me. I know, I know it is only 7 lbs away but they seem to be a very elusive 7 lbs.
(The reason I was late to the gym this morning is because Rich had to listen to be kvetch, moan and groan about those 7 lbs. Poor guy. I know you folks have heard about it several times from me but it was his turn.)
We shall get there!
Kathy
