Selenium Deficiency

Apparently, I'm deficient in selenium. My doctor ordered the test and mine was 83 and the normal lab range is 110-160. She said to take an OTC supplement which I'll pick up. So, I looked up selenium deficiency and it has gotten me thinking that perhaps my side pain/rib issue might be related. Selenium deficiency can cause muscle wasting, osteoarthristic and cartilage issues. Hmmm... I do know that my knees have been sucky for a while. Don't remember when they started aching a bit but they do. I wonder if I'm onto something here. Also, my liver enzymes are still high. Not sky high but elevated. Doc wants me to lay off the booze (nope, haven't had a drop in more than a year), lay off the tylenol (nope, haven't had any of that in months) and up my water intake (which is already 70-100 oz a day). Okay, then... Well, selenium deficiency can cause pancreatitis and liver issues. Hmmm... Kathy (playing a doctor on the internet yet again!) p.s. Selenium is not one that been tested on me before. It was my doctor that determined it was to be run. Don't know if she has read that post-ops are deficient or not. It was not on a lab list that I had gotten off a gastric bypass yahoogroup that seemed very comprehensive and quite extensive.
