Pop?
I have had a very few diet sodas since surgery. I drink it very slowly and the carbonation doesn't seem to bother me. But I also don't get the enjoyment out of it that I used to, so I don't really consider it a problem for me.
However, I LOVE Diet Pepsi Slurpees from Seven 11. It is a true treat for me. I don't know how much my doctor would object to it, it isn't carbonated. There isn't a Seven 11 close to me, which is probably a good thing, or I would get one daily!!! I don't drink coffee, and rarely drink any tea, it's usually just plain water for me.

Rich and I both drink soda. We don't drink it all the time but it probably has become a daily thing. Not sure about him but 1 diet 7up for me.
We just went to a conference and hearing the one doctor talk (now my mind is a blurr as to the justification), we both decided to do without. So once what we have in the house is gone - no more soda.

Every surgeon is different. My friend is almost 4 years post-op and her dr. okayed the stuff after 6 months out. She and a friend of hers who had the surgery the same day as her are both diet soda drinkers. She's kept off 180(from a size 30 to a 18) pounds and her friend has kept off 150(from a size 22 to a 6). Their surgeon said he didn't really think it made a difference.
My surgeon says it's best to go without but not a big deal to have one here and there. He says absolutely NO to the real stuff...diet if you must he says! So I indulge in an occasional Diet Dr Pepper or Dieg Cream soda. It's not often I'll drink the entire drink. I like the fountain drinks much better...easier to go down. It doesn't seem to have much effect on my weight.
What your surgeon says is best.
